“If you keep on believing, the dreams that you wish will come true” (Cinderella)

Once upon a time, as two young girls  were watching their favourite fairytales, they dreamed that one day they too would be a Disney Princess. They imagined a fairytale romance, where they would be treated like royalty and finally marry their Prince Charming. Little did they know that one day their Fairy Godmother's would come and cast a spell, making all their dreams come true…

These two girls, for whom a dream became a reality, show us that fairytales really do come true. Steph, from Stephanie Dreams, fulfilled her wish last October, when her wedding in Disney World made her feel just like a Disney Princess. Whilst Michelle Gypsy is still in the process of planning her Disney-inspired Christmas wedding to her  Prince Charming.

The Cinderella Glass Slipper Moments

Every fairytale romance has to begin somewhere, and for Michelle it was love at first sight, as her eyes met Danny’s across the counter of the shop he managed. The Disney-lover describes meeting her husband-to-be as their “first Disney moment,” and they now have a beautiful daughter together, Lacey.

Whilst for Steph, meeting Prince Charming has all the makings of a modern Disney tale, with Sam catching her attention over social media, as opposed to rescuing her from an evil stepmother. She explains, “Sam and I met on Bebo, after weeks of messages and texts our first date was to the cinema.”

The Proposals

After the Princes found that the glass slipper fit, it was time to make the Princesses their wives.

For Danny there was no doubt that it would be a Disney theme from the very beginning for a wife-to-be who describes herself as “walking Disney.” Not only did Danny pop the question to Michelle in Disneyland Paris with the help of their daughter and Belle from Beauty and the Beast, but he did it with a Disney-inspired engagement ring. “My engagement ring was bought in Disneyland and had Swarovski crystal in the shape of the famous Mickey symbol,” Michelle said.

Meanwhile, Sam stuck to a more traditional, but no less romantic proposal, for his Disney-bride-to-be. Steph explained, “we got engaged over afternoon tea in London, Sam had planned it with the hotel and my ring was under a tea cup!”

So, why Disney?

There is something undeniably enchanting about Disney, and the emotions it evoked in our childhood continue long into adulthood, when we look back on the classics with nostalgia unlike any other. With love being a theme interwoven throughout Disney, is it any wonder that many couples want to incorporate this into their wedding?

For Steph her real love is Disney World, when asked what makes it so special for her, she replies, “It makes me feel giddy and excited, seeing that castle for the first time (over and over) is the most special thing!” For this reason she explains that for her and her fiancée, it was more about getting married in Orlando, Florida as it gave them the beach and magic all in one.

“I never wanted a Disney themed wedding…we did however have snippets of Disney, such as our cake topper that said, ‘It's a nice day for a Disney wedding’, our Mickey head shaped fans [that doubled up as] programmes, having Donald and Daisy for photos and the Mickey ear personalised favours.”

Michelle on-the-other-hand, who is known as “the Disney Queen” amongst friends and family, always knew that Disney would play a huge part in her wedding day. “Disney is my passion. I love everything that is Disney. Having a Disney themed wedding just feels natural after our ‘love at first sight’ moment”

And for Disney-lover Michelle, what could be better than getting married on the year of its 60th anniversary?

Disneyland's 60th Anniversary

Disney’s iconic Disneyland theme park celebrated its 60th anniversary this summer. The original park was unveiled in Anaheim, California on 17th July 1955 with a little help from Walt Disney himself. In the 60 years that have followed the parks have become places that are loved as much by adults as they are by children. Unlike other theme parks, it is far from just the rides that continue to attract people of all ages through the gates, it is the whole experience and magic that creates special lasting memories.

Preparing for a Disney Wedding

Both women have chosen to incorporate their love of Disney into their very special day, alongside more traditional aspects of a wedding.

Planning can be stressful and time consuming, but although she had to plan her big day from the other side of the world, Steph found it quite simple. “I'd looked into weddings for a while, so knew of "Disney Fairy Tale Weddings" and then further on we also found "Just Marry" who deal with Swan and Dolphin weddings (where we got married). Lots of email conversations were had, so with the help of my planner and the amazing girls on the UK Disney Brides Facebook page it was a breeze. You'll soon find vendors that past brides trust and it's easy to find what you need from the internet.”

Michelle, who is still in the process of preparing for her wedding, can currently be found surrounded by craft supplies she has bought from eBay,  hand making items for her wedding to ensure they are the way she imagines and to help stay within budget. She has already made the invites, that she explains, “look like royal scrolls and as you read it, they sound like a Disney fairytale book.

She is also in the process of making Disney centre pieces, whilst her friend makes all her jewellery, inspired by The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. To complete her jewellery, Michelle has taken inspiration from her engagement ring to design her wedding ring. “My wedding ring consists of two bands to represent me and Danny, the Mickey head to represent our love for Disney and on the inside it's engraved with ‘part of your world’ as its from my favourite Disney film The Little Mermaid,” she said.

The Dresses

Michelle’s wedding is set to feature a  1950’s theme alongside Disney, so she has opted for a dress that reflects this. Not wanting to give too much away, as she is yet to wear it, she explained: “My other passion is rockabilly and tattoo culture, which is something else we both share. My dress is a Grace Kelly inspired design with a Disney twist.”

Steph knew she wanted a traditional-looking but short dress, due to her wedding taking place in the heat of Orlando. Feeling robbed by the price of dresses, she took to the internet and found a similar one on eBay, to the one she had already fallen in love with. Her shoes however, where not your typical Princess heels, as she opted for purple  Converse instead “we always wanted to go for fun and casual. We had matching pairs and the wedding party had white ones too," she said.

The Disney World Wedding

Following the decision to get married in the resort, Steph and her future husband chose the beach of the Swan and Dolphin Hotel, which is situated within the Disney property, to say ‘I do’.

Steph explained that a wedding in the park itself was above their budget, but that didn’t stop them doing a pre-wedding photo shoot in Magic Kingdom, which was followed by an intimate ceremony in front of 15 of their closest friends and family members.

She said, "we had cake cutting and toasts straight after the ceremony... [followed by photos with] Donald and Daisy in a private terrace. A normal dining reservation followed, before our private dessert party at Grand Floridian hotel over looking Cinderalla's castle and the fireworks.” Steph says, although it is hard to choose, her favourite moment was probably meeting Donald and Daisy for photos after the ceremony.

When asked if she considered taking the Disney theme further than she did, she explained, “having a destination wedding stopped us from going OTT on things we could bring or do over there.” But Steph, who is already dreaming of renewing her wedding vows there one day, said “I'd happily spend every anniversary, birthday and special occasion at Walt Disney World, if I could!”

A Disney Themed Wedding

Michelle and her husband have opted not to get married in a Disney location, choosing instead to say 'I do' in a registry office in their hometown of Salisbury. This will be followed by a sit down meal at an Italian restaurant and an evening reception at the local working men’s club. But, despite the more traditional locations, Michelle’s wedding will still have a magical feel to it: “the bouquet has a Mickey symbol on the handle and the first dance is going to be to ‘Tale As Old As Time’, everywhere you look there [will be] hints of Disney," she said.

The Honeymoon

You can't have a Disney-themed wedding without honeymooning in a Disney park. Steph, who was already in Florida, stayed there, “[we were] in Disney for two weeks and then came back to Disney for two more nights after we travelled around Florida. I couldn't leave Orlando without seeing that castle for one last time.” Michelle on the other hand is hoping to return to Disneyland Paris, the place of the proposal, for her honeymoon.

So, what happens in the final chapter, you ask? Well, they all lived  Happily Ever After, of course!
