A HISTORY OF JEWELLERY
THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS
The Egyptians wore rather plain clothes. They used jewellery as both a way of adding colour and displaying wealth. Both men and women wore collars, necklaces, armlets, bracelets and anklets. Rings were worn both on the fingers and in the hair! Materials used were gold, coral, Pearls, agate, onyx, chalcedony and shells. Silver, though used to decorate furniture and ornaments, was rarely used for jewellery. This was because it was believed to be made from the bones of the gods.
