So what can YOU do to avoid being scammed?
First of all make sure you read the item description carefully, especially the title.
Check the seller’s feedback, if they have made their feedback private this is a sure sign of a scam. Also a low rating should be approached with caution.
If the eBay account is new be suspicious.
Check the sellers other items for sale. Most sellers will only have one Dvd for sale. More than one could be a sign of a scam. Unless the seller is registered as a business seller.
Use the 'ask seller a question' feature. A genuine seller will respond.
Use PayPal for payment. This protects you as a buyer.
Use common sense. If it looks to good to be true it probably is..
There are lots of great, genuine DVDs to buy on eBay. But to make sure you avoid the knock-off, it pays to read the listing carefully. Here are some examples of dodgy descriptions to look out for.
“New – not even released yet”
In other words, it’s so new that the copy we’re selling was recorded with a camera smuggled into a cinema in a sports bag.
“Great picture and sound quality”
OK, so it sounds like it was recorded underwater, yet you can still hear the guy munching his popcorn in the row in front. And you get a terrific view of the back of his head when he gets up to go to the toilet.
“Not a cheap import or a knock-off”
It’s not a cheap import or a knock-off.
It’s probably a cheap import and a knock-off.
“Can’t vouch for authenticity. Bid accordingly.”
...Or alternatively don't bid at all. Probably a Knock-Off. For sale to Knock-Off Nigels only
