Application Instructions

Applying the vinyl Blue Bird Graphic to your device is simple if you follow some basic guidelines. The graphic generally comes in one piece and is sandwiched between a top layer of transfer tape and a backing layer. There are two methods for applying the Blue Bird Graphic – wet and dry methods are both described below.

 READ BOTH BEFORE BEGINNING!

It’s a good idea to work in a bright, clean area where pets and children won't get in your way. The surface of your device must be completely clean when applying the Blue Bird Graphics.

Wet Method

The wet method results in a more professional application with less air bubbles, but requires that you be very careful to ensure that no moisture gets inside your Device, possibly causing permanent damage. You’ll need the following supplies when applying your Blue Bird Graphic using the wet method.

•    Mildly soapy water in a small spray bottle or mister. Use just enough dish detergent to break the surface tension and suds up a little (one or two small drops per cup of water).
•    A credit card or similar plastic card without sharp edges
•    Paper towel

Vinyl should be applied at a comfortable room temperature. The Device surface should be free of dirt and oils.
1. Clean surface of Device well to remove any dust or oils.

2. Remove the backing (thicker) layer from the Blue Bird Graphic.

3. Lightly mist the adhesive surface with the soapy water solution.

This will allow you to move the graphic into position on your Device. Be careful not to use too much solution or drip onto Device.

4. Carefully place the graphic exactly in the position it is to be located. If you don’t press too hard you can move the graphic around slightly to position it correctly. Make sure to center the Apple logo on your Device in the cutout area, and the edges of the graphic are parallel with the edges of your Device.

Caution: Be VERY careful to avoid letting the solution run down the sides of your Device, which could cause damage. Use paper towel to remove any solution that runs immediately.

5. Holding the graphic lightly to avoid movement, pull the credit card like a squeegee from the center of the graphic out to the edges. ALWAYS work from the center toward the edges. This avoids trapping air or water bubbles. Continue this process over the entire surface.

Caution: Again, be VERY careful to avoid letting the solution run down the sides of your Device, which could cause damage. Use paper towel to remove any solution that runs immediately.

6. Lightly mist the transfer paper and let it sit for about 30 seconds.
The soapy water solution helps loosens the paper so it can be easily removed without pulling the graphic back off. When you begin to see the transfer paper ripple, you can slowly remove it being careful not to pull the graphic.

7. Finish by wiping entire surface carefully with paper towel. Any remaining air bubbles can be pressed out with your finger or carefully popped with a pin.

Use care when handling your Device for a few of days. The moistened adhesive will dry completely in a couple of days and the graphic will adhere as if it was installed dry.

Dry Method

The dry method is a little more difficult and you may notice a few more air bubbles. You should consider this method if you are concerned that you may get soapy water inside your Device, possibly causing permanent damage. You’ll need the following supplies when applying your Blue Bird Graphic using the dry method.
•     A credit card or similar plastic card without sharp edges
•     Masking tape
1. Clean surface of Device well to remove any dust or oils.

2. Without removing the backing, place the Blue Bird Graphic exactly in the position it is to be located. Make sure to center the Apple logo on your Device in the cutout area.

3. Apply a piece of masking tape across the entire top edge to create a “hinge.” Half the tape should be on the transfer paper and half on the surface. Make sure it's got a good grip.

4. Fold the graphic back along the tape “hinge.” Remove the backing carefully, slowly pulling it back, revealing the adhesive side of the graphic.

5. Hold the decal so that it is about 45° from the surface of the Device. DO NOT ALLOW THE GRAPHIC TO FREELY TOUCH THE SURFACE. Once the graphic has touched the surface you may not be able to remove it without damaging the graphic. With the credit card in hand, carefully begin “squeegeeing” down about 1 inch along the top edge of the graphic, making sure to remove all  air bubbles. Continue “squeegeeing” about 1 inch at a time until the entire graphic is down. Then “squeegee” over the entire surface.

6. Finally, remove the transfer tape slowly, pulling it back from the decal. If any air bubbles remain, carefully pop them with a pin and press them out with your finger to flatten. Small air bubbles may work themselves our over time as the air escapes from the vinyl.

Congratulations! Enjoy your new Blue Bird Graphic.

Questions?

Q What is the most important step in applying Blue Bird Graphics to my Device?
A An absolutely clean surface is the key to any good application.

Q What should I use to clean surface of my Device before application?
A We recommend using a mild household glass cleaner sprayed directly onto a cloth (not onto the Device itself).

Q How hard should I press when I “squeegee?”
A You must press fairly hard. The adhesive on pressure sensitive vinyl requires firm pressure to ensure good adhesion.

Q Can I remove the Graphic from my Device?
A Yes, it is relatively easy to remove an Blue Bird Graphic with little effort. Simply peel a corner of the vinyl graphic with your fingernail and pull it off. In most cases there will be little or no stick residue. If there is, we have had success using a small amount of WD-40 sprayed on a cloth (not onto the Device itself) to remove the residue. To finish, clean surface using a mild household glass cleaner sprayed directly onto a cloth.

Caution: Make sure to read the directions on your solvent remover to ensure that it will not harm the surface of your Device.
