THIS IS WHAT HAS JUST HAPPENED TO ME , I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER ON EBAY SINCE 1999, I HAVE BEEN AN HONEST AND TRUSWORTHY BUYER AND SELLER AND WORKED HARD TO BUILD UP GOOD FEEDBACK, then suddenly OVERNIGHT EVERYTHING HAS BEEN TURNED UPSIDE DOWN.

It all started when i suddenly received masses of alerts on my computer screen from my ebay toolbar (luckily!!)  telling me i had won mobile phones, I knew i had not made any bids recently so immediately went onto ebay and signed into my account, well i tried to, but kept being told i had the incorrect password and was unable to do so, I was in a state of panic, and started hunting through the help pages trying to find a way to contact ebay to tell them what had happened, by now i had guessed the awful truth that someone had stolen my account, it was very frustrating trying to get help but after ages I managed to find some live online help , i had to queue here for absolutely agrs for someone to 'talk' to me, all the while worrying about my paypal account ...... had they also got into that??? It turned out they had not only changed my password but also my email address, so i wasnt even getting emails to alert me, if it hadnyt been for the fact I had the ebay toolbar downloaded i might not have known for ages as i was having a break from Ebay at the time.

The worst of this was for me that i have always been so cautious, i am not green where spoof emails and hackers are concerned, i never answer these mails or enter my details any where i shouldnt, i never dreamt this could happen tio me!! this only happened to newbies and people with little knowledge of the computing world, or so i thought, but it did happen to me, and although Ebay confirmed that this was the case and promised to contact all the sellers who had been misled they failed to do so, leaving me to write to masses of people many of whom were understandably hostile thinking i was just a time waster, a non payer, it has been awful a real nightmare, this bogus person bought over £7.000 worth of mobiles on my account in less than a day!! i am still worried incase i end up with negative feedback or unpaid strikes, but these bogus people are still operating!! some of the sellers have informed me that they are still receiving emails asking them to send the phones to Nigeria, they would presumably pay with stolen credit cards.

So the moral of this story is be vigilant, report suspicious activity, not only on your own account but on that of others too, change your ebay password frequently and choose one that is difficult to bust ie a mixture of letters and numbers, capitols and dashes etc and something that cant be found in the dictionary only read & answer your messages from the 'my nessages' section of 'my ebay' .....  And frankly don't expect Ebay to do a lot more for you than to give you your account back, great BUT with all the bogus items you have 'bought' still listed there and your new  user name listed as the winner of the auctins you didnt bid on!! This amazed me!! they changed my user name and password but also changed the winning bidder ID on all the auctions the scammer had bid on, so that i was still in the firing line for something i had not done, Not very reassuring!! Also many of the sellers who i spoke to had had previous experiences of this, one of them had experienced it twice on this same phone he was selling!!! A bit of a concern i would say and something Ebay really needs to address if it doesn't want to lose some of its old faithful members.... maybe they just don't care??!!
