iPhone Speaker

This brilliant use of a mason jar doesn't require any accessory at all to pump up the jam on your iPhone. Simply turn on your tunes and place the iPhone in a wide mouth mason jar for makeshift sound amplification. Try different jars to get a sound you like and then get your groove on!

Mason Jar Blender

Did you know that the thread of a standard-size mason jar is the same as most blender attachments? When home blenders were first made many of them noted this in the instruction manual.

Divide smoothie ingredients into a number of jars and store them in the fridge. When you are ready for a smoothie, twist the blade onto a jar and blend it in seconds. This is also a simple solution for small volume recipes like salad dressing or dips that can then be served or stored right in the jar.

Punch a hole in the snap lid and add a washer for an instant straw cup to go.

Outdoor Solar Lights

Making stylish solar lights could not be easier. You can simply attach the light and battery from a stake light into a mason jar, or purchase some pre-made screw on lids. Frost the glass for a moon-like glow or fill the jar with glass beads for a little sparkle.

Florist Vase

Keep flowers standing upright with a flower frog lid. The lid is specially designed with a grid to hold stems in place giving you a simple way to organise them. Traditionally a flower frog was a disc of spikes that sat at the bottom of the vase, but a lid version works just as well.

For a quick DIY that requires nothing more than you have in your craft drawer, make a grid out of clear tape and use that to hold the flowers.

Candle Lanterns

Twisting on these star-shaped lids is the only step to turning a mason jar into a lantern. Make your own by tying rope or a chain to the screw top and add in a tea light.

For those who love tapered candles, this lid can be added to display candles for rustic weddings or traditional dinners.

Pendant Lamp

PConvert a jar into a pendant lamp by cutting a hole to fit the lamp kit into a metal snap lid. Spray paint the snap lid and ring to match the pendant fixture and it looks like it was made to be together.

Don’t want to DIY it? There are plenty of kits that simply attach to your favourite jar, and some even include the perfect jar.

Table Lamp

Use a kit to turn a mason jar into a lamp in seconds. Add a shade and some decorative shells, bark, or balls in the base and you have a table lamp that celebrates the jar in a whole new way.

Pump It

Create a soap or lotion pump by recycling a plastic pump from a disposable soap bottle and cutting a hole in the metal snap lid to fit. Add a touch of glue to the inside of the hole to hold the pump and use spray paint to cover the lid and ring to match the colour of the pump.

Bathroom Set

Remember the flower frog top? Add one on a jar that matches your soap pump to hold toothbrushes. Add a third jar in the bathroom as a drinking glass and you have a DIY bathroom set.
