The age old verse

Something old

Something new

Something borrowed

Something blue

but what happened to the last line of the verse?

And a silver sixpence in her shoe

Perhaps it is because the sixpence is no longer legal tender or perhaps like many traditions it just got lost in time.

This tradition is making a comeback and there are many sellers on ebay, myslef included, that are keeping the traditon alive.

The tradition became popular in the reign of Queen Elizabeth and has remained popular in some circles even today.

The custom is for the bride to wear the coin in her left shoe, it ensures good luck and prosperity for the newly married couple.

Back when a sixpence was a small fortune the local lord of the manor gave the sixpence to the couple as a 'dowry', helping them to start their married life with a reasonable amount of money.  Hence the tradition was born.

A small token to help keep a british tradition alive.

I have many gifts which include the sixpence, why not take a look
