Hi all. If, like me, you like to see things done properly, then this may interest you.
I have noticed a lot of 'Govt Scrappage scheme' or 'Cash for bangers' scheme listings appearing in Ebay Motors. In essence, this incentive by the government seems OK, but BEFORE you go bidding on that £150 banger, you need to realise something...
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THE £2000 ALLOWANCE YOU MUST HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR A MINIMUM OF 12 MONTHS. THIS HAS TO BE PROVEN BY YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS BEING ON THE LOG BOOK FOR A CONTINUAL PERIOD OF 12 MONTHS.
Ok you say, I'll buy one and then keep it 12 months! I can always SORN it. WRONG!!
The scheme runs from 1st May 2009 until 31 March 2010. Just under 12 months!! You can have a vehicle that is SORN, and due to a loop hole, that would be permitted to qualify. But again, it has to have been in your name for a minimum of 12 months.
Finally, there is a limited amount of funds available. It is estimated there is enough for the 300,000 new vehicle registrations. What really gets me though is the Govt have introduced this scheme, which while a good idea in principle, the banks aren't lending anyone any money to buy a car!!
SO, THERE YOU HAVE IT. DON'T GET CAUGHT OUT AND END UP WITH SOME OLD BANGER THAT YOU CAN'T GET RID OF. YOU COULD END UP PAYING OUT £150 FOR IT AND THEN ANOTHER £100 FOR THE SCRAP DEALER TO TAKE IT AWAY!!!!
Buyer Beware 'Cash for Bangers' ads in Ebay Motors!
