Shipping / postage costs for one item are normally given in the listing information. Take care to read this information before committing to buy. The cost often involves additional overheads - such as material costs and staff labour time for packing your order which you should take into consideration. If you think the cost stated is too high - look elsewhere !
Combined shipping often causes complications. If you are buying more than one item from a listing, most sellers will have stated upfront what the additional costs are for adding more of that item. If you are unsure for any reason, SEND A MESSAGE. Most sellers like myself are only too happy to advise.
The main confusion or problems arise when people buy various items from one seller, but FROM DIFFERENT LISTINGS. If the seller has set up special shipping rules for each of those items, Ebay can calculate and combine by adding a flat rate charge for each additional item with that rule.
1 pack pink sweets, £1.00 shipping. Each additional pack of sweets (any type) 25p
you buy pink, blue and green. Ebay knows it's £1 for the first and 25 for both additional items - so combines automatically and bills you £1.50 shipping.
However, it is not always so easy ! Some products vary enormously in their shipping requirements due to specific packaging types and sizes or costs and it is not possible to make a rule that works. When this happens and there are no set rules, Ebay classes each purchase from each listing as a separate order.
For example, you buy (all from the same seller)
1 pack pink sweets £1.00 shipping, 1 pair of shoes £5.00 shipping, 1 television £20 shipping
Ebay adds all this up and charges you £1 + £5 + £20 = £26.00.
Items above are as a guide only. Same could apply if you bought 1 x large, 1 x medium and 1 x small item
Thinking you want to be the best possible ebayer, you pay immediately. Instead of the seller having some time to combine these items manually and give you a cost for one big parcel with three items, ebay tells the seller they have three orders to ship. Small volume ebayers may be able to spot this and help - but the rest of us will send you three separate parcels which is more costly to both us and to you.
AT CHECKOUT, CLICK THE REQUEST TOTAL FROM SELLER LINK,
This sends us an email to tell us you need a combined invoice. Do NOT pay until the seller sends the manual invoice. It may be that the seller can combine into one parcel at lower cost to you and them.
Most sellers will be able to manually adjust these items and give you a different shipping rate. If all in the one box and within their allocated courier rate for example - perhaps you might only pay shipping for the television and the other items could be combined at no extra cost.
If you have questions about the combined shipping charges or buying from overseas, please DO send a message and ask ! If you leave less than a 5 star rating on shipping costs, this affects how much our ebay fees are and it may mean prices have to rise. That doesn't help anyone.
The other alternative to a seller is that they make all their listings show free postage. The postage is NOT free - it's included in the item price ! If you need multiple items, this is a very expensive way to buy your items
Lets say, you buy:
1 x pack of paper cases at £1.50 cost price, plus £1.50 post. Additional packs are 25p shipping. This costs you £3.00.
1 pack of paper cases at £3.00 with free ship.
Both of the above work out the exact same.
However, if you buy :
1 x pack of blue cases at £1.50 + £1.50 post and 1 x pack of pink cases at £1.50 (25p additional post) total is £1.50 + £1.50 (= £3.00) + £1.50 + 25p post comes to a grand total of £4.75.
1 x pack of blue cases £3.00 free ship, 1 x pack pink cases £3.00, free ship = Total = £6.00 !
My advice is :
MESSAGE IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS BEFORE BUYING
READ THE INFO IN THE LISTING FIRST
CHECK THE TOTAL YOU ARE PAYING INCLUDING SHIPPING IS CORRECT
USE THE REQUEST TOTAL FROM SELLER LINK - OR WAIT UNTIL MANUAL COMBINED INVOICE HAS BEEN SENT
(please don't whine after paying as you will have cost us AND you more more money if you haven't waited on the combined invoice)
