Is it really 'quad-core'?

A lot of sellers these days appear to be hoodwinking the casual buyer looking for a laptop.
This is because there is a grey area between 'cores' and 'threads' - they are NOT the same!
a 'core' is a full cpu. A 'thread' is an instruction 'pipeline' - some cpu's can handle two threads at once, but this still is not the same performance as two cpus!
Check the listing details to extract the cpu model number, or machine model number if not available.

Check the processor model No.

Sellers are listing the number of threads as the number of cpus. This is misleading. Check the model number on the Intel site BEFORE you bid or buy. Laptop i7 processors are mostly DUAL core whilst some are quad core. Check with Google and Intel first to avoid being duped. This also holds true for i5 cpus as well.
In the example here, the actual cpu model is not shown. However we can Google 'HP 8470p' to see the spec..
Google the brand and model of machine, to get the cpu model number (an i5-3320M in this case).

Google the machine model if you can't find the cpu model number.

Here we can see that HP's website clearly displays the spec of this laptop and most importantly, the cpu model installed. voila!
Google the cpu model to arm yourself with the true facts.

Google the cpu model number

Once armed with the correct cpu model, Google again to find the details.
Usually the first result from Google will be Intel's website 'ark intel com' - you're in the right place. Click on the link to be informed.
