AT FIRST, BUYING YOUR FIRST ROCKING HORSE MAY BE A SIMPLE AND STRAIGHT FORWARD AFFAIR. JUST SEARCH EBAY.CO.UK AND YOU WILL FIND THAT IT IS NOT QUITE THAT EASY.

FIRST THERE ARE THE NUMBER OF ROCKING HORSES WRONGLY IDENTIFIED AS BEING ANTIQUE.

DO NOT BE FOOLED. SOME OF THESE "ANTIQUES" ARE NO MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD AND HAVE NO VALUE.

THEN THERE ARE THE ANTIQUE ROCKING HORSES SOLD FOR RESTORATION. BEWARE ...... RESTORATION COSTS CAN COST ANYTHING FROM £800 - £1200 PLUS AND MAY OUT VALUE THE VALUE OF THE ROCKING HORSE.

I WOULD ALWAYS ADVISE PURCHASING FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER. PERSONALLY WE ARE LAPADA REGISTERED WHICH GIVES OUR CUSTOMERS THE PEACE OF MIND TO PURCHASE WITH CONFIDENCE.

SWING STAND OR BOW ROCKER

THIS IS A TRICKY ONE. WE SEE FAR LESS BOW ROCKERS THAN WE DO SWING STANDS. THEREFOR IF YOU ARE A COLLECTOR YOU WILL FIND THAT A BOW WILL TAKE CENTRE STAGE IN YOUR LINE UP.

IF YOU ARE PURCHASING FOR A CHILD TO USE, I WOULD PROBABLY RECOMMEND A SWING STAND. BOWS, TAKE UP MORE SPACE, THEY TEND TO TRAVEL WHEN BEING RIDDEN AND YOU ALSO HAVE TO BE VERY WATCHFUL OF NEARBY CHILDREN. THEY NEVER FORGET HAVING A TOE OR FINGER TRAPPED UNDER THE BOW ....... IT HURTS!

SIZE

IF BUYING FOR A VERY YOUNG CHILD PERSONALLY I WOULD THINK OF PURCHASING A HORSE MEASURING NO MORE THAN 40 INCHES HIGH. SOMETIMES A VERY LARGE HORSE WILL BE VERY OFF PUTTING TO A YOUNG RIDDER.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A ROCKING HORSE FOR AN ADULT TO RIDE, THEN YOU REALLY NEED TO PURCHASE SOMETHING STANDING 47 INCHES HIGH OR ABOVE. IF YOU SEE A ROCKING HORSE STANDING 56 INCHES HIGH IT IS REALLY SOMETHING THAT THE AVERAGE GIANT COULD RIDE AND ENJOY.

PRICE RANGE

JUST REMEMBER THAT THE AVERAGE CHILD WILL HAVE AS MUCH PLEASURE FROM SOMETHING COSTING £500 AS £5000. IT IS THE ADULTS WHO MAY STRUGGLE TO OPEN THEIR HEARTS TO A HORSE LOOKING MORE LIKE THE BACK OF A BUS!
