Cake decorating essentials

More and more these days people want to bake cakes themselves and why not?  They taste sommuch fresher and with the right tools and a bit of patience can look amazing!   I started baking and decorating a few years ago now and went in blind,  not having much equipment or tools.  So I've put together a list of tools that make your life so much easier! 

Disposable Piping bags - I went through at least 20 reusable bags,  all of which burst or split or turned out to be rubbish before realising disposable was the way forward. 

A good set of Piping nozzles - I would spend as much as you can afford on these aas the cheaper ones clog up,  don't give a crisp finish and can bend easily.  I would also chose metal over plastic and a Wilson 1m tip is essential for a beautiful swirl on a cupcake. 

A good pme rolling pin - if you can buy more than one size then do so,  I use a small one for details and a large one for rolling out fondant to cover a cake. 

Cutters - these will vary depending on what you need but always good to have a wide range of them especially in common shapes  ccircles,  squares  hearts etc. 

A cutting mat - this will make your life so much easier when cutting out shapes and making anything out of fondant,  it eliminates the need for icing sugar and nothing sticks to it. 

Craft knife -  these are great for cutting out individual shapes and tidying up edges,  so much easier than a large knife. 

These are the things I could not live without when making.  I'm sure there are many more things I could go on about but this should just about get you started tool wise.
