If you want good quality player with upscaling,HDMI & a good CD audio playback then this is A1.You can pick this model up on E-bay for around £40. There is also the similiar DVD 86/85. Avoid the 85 as it seems to have problems with the laser. The 86 is just an older model of the 89.Saying that, I would advise paying no more than £50 for a secondhand model & then only if in good condition with maual & dust sleeve. Build is v.good. No plastic.Nice brushed Ali front. The led readouts can be tempramental.Down points are few:Its an older model, but still better than your average dvd player. The original cost of the 89 model was around £200 and it got rave reviews at the time. Im so pleased with mine, that Im looking 4 another to use solely as a stand alone CD player,as for the price I feel there is little to match it.Lots of more technical info available online. All in all a great DVD/CD player if youre on a budget. No bells & whistles so you get a better transport and playback for your money. They also seem to keep their secondhand value well. One other point: The remote does feel a little cheap!
