A short film looks at Tauba Auerbach's 'Fold' Series

Auerbach's 'Fold' sells for £950k at Phillips' sale

Tauba Auerbach (American, b.1981) is an artist whose one of three works that set records at Phillips' recently when ' Fold' was knocked down for £950,000.

The large 6ft 8in x 5ft acrylic abstract was produced on a flat surface with the artist using a technique to the impression that creases had formed on the canvas, giving the viewer a three-dimensional sense or '2.5th' dimension as Auerbach puts it.

Part of  a series from 2010-11, her 'Fold' paintings have been selling progressively higher at auction over the last 18 months as they have caught the attention of both US and European buyers.

Another artist who has benefited from London's 'Frieze Week' (third week in October) is Peter Doig (born 1959).

His picture of a basketball court by the sea, The Heart of Old San Juan was offered at Christie's with a £4m to £6m estimate. It eventually sold for £4 million standing in the top ten auction prices for the artist.

Here at Essential Art we have several modernist pictures in stock. David Dodsworth's abstract painting being the most popular. It's on offer for a very modest £1400 or best offer. You don't get service like this at Christie's!
