Here is a useful guide to the various sizes of cassettes used in dictation and transcription equipment.

The most popular format is MINI cassette. Philips only use MINI cassettes in their tape based machines, but other manufacturers such as

Dictaphone, Olympus and Sanyo also use this format.

These cassettes measure 55mm x 34mm approx.

MINI CASSETTE

MICRO cassettes are used by Dictaphone, Sanyo, Sony and Olympus. Also some Grundig models use MICRO cassettes.

These cassettes measure 50mm x 33mm approx.

MICRO CASSETTE

STANDARD cassettes are used by Sanyo, Sony and Dictaphone.

This is the size as a typical music/audio cassette.

These cassettes measure 100mm x 64mm approx.

STANDARD CASSETTE

Many GRUNDIG machines use a type of cassette known as a STENO cassette 30.

This is unique to Grundig and cannot be used with any other manufacturers equipment.

These cassettes measure 65mm x 45mm approx.
