You know how you almost never seem to have a gift bag on hand when you need one? Especially at Christmas. Why not make your own with the gift wrap you already have on hand.
Paper gift bags are perfect for those awkward gifts that still need wrapping; footballs come to mind, a blanket, throw or scarf. Or, any gift that requires an extra-special touch (we won't tell them how easy it was).

You will need:

wrapping paper
paper scissors
bone folder
glue stick or  double sided tape
hole punch
ribbon, twine or gift bow

Step 1

Start by rolling out your gift wrap and laying down the gift (going in the bag) to ensure you cut off enough to make your bag as large, but not too large, as it needs to be.

In this case, I'm wrapping this bird hook.

Step 2

Now fold your paper almost in half leaving about an inch of overhang.

Step 5

Readjust the paper so the seam runs down the centre of your bag.

Place your gift on the paper again just to be sure you've got the sizing correct.

Step 6

Fold one end (the bottom) of your bag over (see photo).
Make sure the fold is big enough to fit your gift. Lay your gift down on the fold if you need to, to be sure.

Step 10

Allow the glue to dry and then stand your bag up and fluff out. It's time to fill!

Add in tissue paper or paper shreds and then top with your gift.

Step 11

Fold down the top of your bag to the back where the seam is so that it won't show in front.

Using a paper hole punch, punch two holes, approximately a half inch apart, in the centre of the fold at the top of the bag. This should go through the entire bag.

Thread ribbon or twine through the back of the bag and tie in front. This will secure your bag.

You can also choose to fold the top of your bag over and secure with tape on the back and add a traditional gift wrap bow on the front instead. Or, you can simply leave the top of your bag open and fill with tissue paper.

Get fancy and use a super-sturdy paper and even add handles to your bag. The possibilities are endless and the best part is you'll always have a bag on hand when you need one.
