Don't Let Delivery Problems Effect Your Buyer Feedback Rating!

As selling on eBay is so heavily reliant on positive Buyer feedback Clarion Spa didn't want to risk poor feedback due to delivery problems which were completely out of our control. We looked at our courier options and thought we'd share these with you.

Royal Mail can be good for smaller items but we have been let down by them on numerous occasions now (lost deliveries, delayed 1st class deliveries, Postmen not ensuring the Buyer signs for deliveries and therefore rendering their 'Track and Trace' system completely useless etc). Their 'Signed For' service actually doesn't guarantee anything and their 'Recorded' service will push your postage costs even higher if you offer free delivery as ClarionSpa does.  Really frustrating for both us and the Buyer!  The Royal Mail 'Claims' system is relatively simple and efficient albeit a bit long-winded, but there is  a distinct lack of customer service at our local Post Office. Come on Royal Mail, what's gone wrong? Sort it out please!

So what else is out there?...

Don't worry. Check out Parcel2Go, it's basically a price comparison site for courier services.  You enter the details of your package and they generate all the courier choices you have.

Our current preferred delivery option is MyHermes 'tracked' as their rates are really competitive and the process is so straight forward. They offer courier collection or they have loads of Parcel Shops, which are usually based at your local newsagents. You can search for your nearest Parcel Shop by entering you postcode onto their website.  For some unknown reason some Parcel Shops don't always show on the Parcel2Go website so cross check it with MyHermes too. Any claims are dealt with really quickly and they can provide you with copies of tracking signatures if necessary. You will need a printer to print out their postage label but invest in a label printer and it makes it so much easier.

We have also recently used MyHermes' new international service, and I'm pleased to report it was very quick and efficient with very competitive rates. Drop off is at your local Parcel Shop as normal and Hermes do the rest.  Delivery is within 3-14 days with full tracking. We would recommend that you include the insurance fee (plus 20% VAT) as part of your postage fee to protect yourself and create an 'International Shipping Terms and Conditions' for Buyers outlining potential customs delays and additional customs charges, again just to protect yourself.  Most of this blurb can just be copied from the MyHermes FAQ's.

There is also some really useful information on the Money Saving Expert website.  I won't repeat it all here but do look at their webpage by entering 'Cheap Parcel Delivery' into their Search facility. There are lots of useful guidelines plus price comparisons for both UK and international deliveries.
