It was an exciting day worldwide when Prince William of Wales and Her Royal Highness Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge exchanged their wedding vows on April 29th, 2011. Since then, there has been even more excitement with the birth of a royal prince and princess; Prince George of Cambridge, (George Alexander Louis) born July 22, 2013 and Princess Charlotte of Cambridge (Charlotte Elizabeth Diana) born May 2, 2015.

The picture above shows Queen Elizabeth sitting with great-granddaughter, Princess Charlotte on her lap, her great-grandson, Prince George standing close by her, two grandchildren and her other three great-grandchildren. The legendary American photographer, Annie Leibovitz, took the photograph in the Green Drawing Room of Windsor Castle.
The world just can't seem to get enough of the Royal family.  Their every move is photographed, their words are documented and their overall appearance is constantly being scrutinized.  This frenzy contributes to the British Royal Family effectively being fashion trendsetters! For example:  recently when Prince George met The President of The United States and The First Lady, he was wearing pyjamas and a  robe. It has been reported that this particular brand of robe sold out within minutes after online photos showed the prince wearing one monogrammed with his first name. This fashion frenzy revolving around the Royal Family seems to be the norm and there's a growing trend for mothers (especially British mothers) to dress their children in vintage style clothing such as cardigans, rompers and dainty floral dresses.
The Duchess is reported to be very conscious of her influence in the fashion world and tries to use this influence wisely. Kate generally chooses affordable outfits for her children because she doesn't want to draw "unhealthy" attention to what they are wearing. She has quickly learned that a particular dress or outfit will sell out almost immediately after she or her children have been seen wearing it. Because of this overwhelming attention to their attire, their clothing is deliberately chosen by the Duchess and styles are typically traditional, understated, and have a nostalgic appearance. Good news! This "timeless" style means that you too can easily achieve iconic royal fashion - without breaking the bank!

Both George and Charlotte were introduced to the world swaddled in a baby blankets made by the same company that created their father’s baby blanket in 1982 and their grandfather’s in 1948. The blankets were made from superfine merino wool and were constructed by GH Hurt & Son Ltd.
In case you didn't know, merino wool is among the finest fabrics in the world because of excellent features such as:
  • Organic merino wool is a totally natural material and is the softest wool available.  It is gentle to the skin and is breathable, which helps to maintain comfortable temperatures and provides natural warmth. This wool absorbs moisture so even if it gets wet, it still feels warm and comfortable to the skin.
  • Natural lanolin in this organic wool makes it naturally resistant to mould and bacteria and naturally neutralize odour. It is also resistant to dust mites; they cannot thrive due to microscopic bristles on the wool fibres.
  • Wool does not catch on fire and actually acts as a natural fire retardant.
  • You can personally find affordable organic merino wool swaddling baby blankets on eBay from companies such as LANACare from Denmark, disana GmbH & Co. KG from Germany, and SonnenStrick, also from Germany, and PoPoLiNi, located in Budapest.

The Christening of Prince George and Princess Charlotte

In order to preserve the 170-year-old original, both Prince George and Princess Charlotte were christened in an elaborate fine lace and satin christening gown that is a replica of one made in 1841 for the christening of Queen Victoria's eldest daughter.
Since both George and Charlotte are in direct line to become the future king or queen and the supreme governor of the Church of England, being baptized into the church is extremely significant.
Although your family may not possess a 170-year-old heirloom, your child can still be adorned with an elegant, keepsake  christening gown on their baptismal day. You can easily find many beautiful and affordable gowns on eBay.

In the winter, the prince stays toasty warm wearing a  snowsuit from a company called Mountain Warehouse and a Fair Isle   hat that is similar to a beanie from Carter's or Ralph Lauren. For summer fun, you can find shorts and shirt sets similar to what George wears at the GAP and Nautica, a smocked sailboat  jumpsuit at Carriage Boutique and  dungarees by John Rocha.

The Duchess often turns to designers Rachel Riley and Spanish designer, Fina Ejerique for George's clothing. It's also reported that since George was 2 months old, Kate has been buying clothes for him at a London children’s boutique called Amaia and apparently goes shopping at the store herself. Kate also seems to like designs by Annafie and Les Petites Abeilles.

One of Kate's favourite designers is Spanish designer M&H. Since each piece of clothing is handmade with fabric from Spain, there are only a few pieces of each item made, which makes Charlotte's dresses almost one-of-a-kind. Other favourite places that Kate likes to shop are the online Spanish boutique Pepa & Co., and children's clothing store in London called Trotters.
