Easier painting in cold weather

I was using one of those hot air guns to remove crusty old paint off my windowsills. The weather was dry and cold, so I decided to apply the paint immediately. The paint was like jelly in the can, and I had great trouble applying it. I decided to warm the tin with the hot air gun which was close-by, to my delight it thinned out to normal consistancy. and applying it was "doddle" I experimented further by making the paint quite hot, in fact so hot that I had to hold the can with a yellow duster. The paint flew on, and was dry in 4 hours. In future I am going to heat all paint ,cold weather or not !! I subsequently had to use exterior varnish. and I applied the same rules. Total satisfaction.
