What is a Fake

A fake coin is a coin that has been made as copy of an original as a deliberate attempt to deceive the collector . Many of these are being sold under the guise of REPLICA or MUSEUM COPY . While they are occasionally listed as such (often in very small print !) The actual coin is  not marked as a copy .

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM
None if they stay in the collection of the original purchaser. But they are not . Many have stared to be resold as original coins not only on ebay but in specialist coin auctions , collectors fairs , antique auctions , car boot sales etc.
In the past a fake could be easily detected by its weight However the fakers now have got over this problem. So the fakes are now virtually indistinguishable from the original.

VALUES OF THE REAL THING ARE BEING EFFECTED

I have been dealing in coins for over 30 years and sadly I no longer buy certain coins as the fakes are now so good that my customers have no confidence in the original coins.
Prices have fallen on the following coins over the last few months and some are now unsalable. If you have any of the following in your collection you may need to start worrying.
1928 Wreath Crown
1763 Northumberland Shilling
Morgan CC dollars
USA Trade Dollars
Chinese Dollar Coins
Britannias
Sovereigns
PGCS Slabbed coins
1850 Shilling
