For the record: This guide is not aimed at anyone I have bought from, any similarities are purely coincidental.
STONE ISLAND well lets get the ball rolling, here goes the official stance is
"It is not possible to say if a garment is genuine or a counterfeit
from the description, the article code (ART No:), the serial number or from a picture."
Further information when I get hold of it will be added to this guide.
You can arm yourself with a set of pdf's of the look books or an actual 'look book' from the beak street shop for £6.00ish. Get your self on their mailing list too. Or at this website http://www.stoneisland.com/index_start.php3
Suffice to say if you have a seller with full size range availible and as many as you want, then they are fake, SI SPA Company make there clothes in fairly limited quantities, thats why shops like Cruise and Flannels only get to buy Jackets and Coats in 2 or 3 units of each garment style, size and colour. Selfridges get to sell a lot more due to there buying power and size.
How to read an ART number,
41 /14 /2026 / 322
(OSTI created 3 million colour mixes so for instance 322 is CHARCOAL one type of charcoal dye, 0066 OLIVE) theres more than one COLOUR tone, so there may be over 100 OLIVE colour tones all assigned different number codes) 8-0.
CP COMPANY 18. Started in 1975
STONE ISLAND 15. Started in 1983
CP DONNA 20. Started in 1994
STONE ISLAND DENIMS 14. Started in 1999?
I have had dealings with staff at the STONE ISLAND shop and they
do say that there is no real way of telling if a garment is real other than
buying direct, and the art numbers can be faked......
A zip, a LAMPO, long thought to be away of telling its authenticity is also no way of
telling if the garment bought is real. I have SI & CP shop bought gear with
LAMPO, L, YKK, and an ! mark as the manufacturer of the zips so that is no guide
to it being real.
Its all really down to instinct and quality you will know the genuine stuff, you just know ;-).
Garments are made in ITALY & RUMANIA (ROMANIA), others have sited
Tunisia? & China for the MADE IN (for more advanced machines for complex seems etc).
