Removal
1. CAUTION: Previously modified front seat backrest levers may be retained by a screw. Remove the front seat backrest release lever. 1. Using a suitable screwdriver, depress the locking tangs. 2. Pull the release lever upwards.

Installation
2. Install a new front seat backrest release lever (see Parts Required). 1. Install the front seat backrest release lever. 2. Install the retaining screw

1. NOTE: The old style front seat backrest release lever cable has two plastic rollers at the upper end of the cable. The new style front seat backrest release lever cable has a single metal roller. Check to see if the old style front seat backrest release lever cable is installed. 1. New style front seat backrest release lever cable. 2. Old style front seat backrest release lever cable. • To install a new front seat backrest release lever cable, go to the next step. 

CAUTION: To avoid damage to the front seat backrest recliner handwheel, even pressure must be applied to the opposite sides of the handwheel. Remove the front seat backrest recliner handwheel.

Remove the inner and outer lower trim panels. 1. Detach the lower retaining tang from the seat frame. 2. Detach the upper retaining clip from the seat frame.

Remove the inner and outer upper trim panels. 1. Detach the lower retaining tang from the seat frame. 2. Detach the upper retaining clip from the seat frame. 

Detach the front seat backrest rear panel from the front seat backrest. 1. Remove the retaining screw covers. 2. Remove the retaining screws. 

Remove the front seat backrest rear panel. 1. Lift the lower edge of the rear panel 5 cm to detach the retaining clips at the upper edge of the panel. 2. Slide the front seat backrest rear panel rearwards.

Detach the front seat backrest cover from the underside of the front seat backrest.
• Detach the retaining strip. 

Roll the front seat backrest cover up the front seat backrest to access the lower ends of the tensioning rods.
Detach the lower ends of the tensioning rods from the front seat backrest.

Roll the front seat backrest cover up the front seat backrest to access the upper ends of the tensioning rods. 
Detach the upper ends of the tensioning rods from the front seat backrest.

CAUTION: Previously modified front seat backrest levers may be retained by a screw. Remove the front seat backrest release lever.
Using a suitable screwdriver, depress the locking tangs. 
Pull the release lever upwards.
Detach the lower ends of the front seat backrest release lever cable. Remove the cable tie.
Detach the retaining clip from the front seat backrest latch.

Note the routing of the cable to aid installation. Remove the front seat backrest release lever cable. • Rotate the front seat backrest release lever cable 90 degrees clockwise. • Remove the front seat backrest release lever cable from the upper end.
~~Fiesta 2002.25 (10/2002-) only  NOTE: Slide the front seat fully backwards to gain access to the front seat cushion retaining bolts. Remove the front seat cushion.

Remove the outer upper trim panel.  Detach the front retaining clip from the seat frame.  Detach the rear retaining tang from the seat frame

Detach the lower ends of the front seat backrest release lever cable. Detach the retaining clip from the front seat backrest latch.  Detach the front seat backrest release lever cable from the front seat backrest latch
With the aid of someone else fold the front seat backrest forward.
Detach the front seat backrest cover from the underside of the front seat backrest (front seat shown removed for clarity). • Detach the retaining strip. 

Roll the front seat backrest cover up the front seat backrest to access the lower ends of the tensioning rods.  Detach the lower ends of the tensioning rods from the front seat backrest. 

Roll the front seat backrest cover up the front seat backrest to access the upper ends of the tensioning rods.  Detach the upper ends of the tensioning rods from the front seat backrest. 

Remove the front seat backrest release lever. Using a suitable screwdriver, depress the locking tangs. Pull the release lever upwards.

NOTE: Note the routing of the cable to aid installation. Remove the front seat backrest release lever cable. • Rotate the front seat backrest release lever cable 90 degrees clockwise. • Remove the front seat backrest release lever cable from the upper end. 

CAUTION: The routing of the front seat backrest release lever cable is important. Failure to follow the correct routing may result in incorrect operation of the front seat backrest release lever. Install a new front seat backrest release lever cable (see Parts Required).

Install a new front seat backrest release lever (see Parts Required). 1. Install the front seat backrest release lever. 2. Install the retaining screw (if equipped).

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
