A Guide to Wet Felting
Wet Felting is an increasingly popular hobby where merino tops are used to produce a fine fabric which can then be used for hats, scarfs, bags etc. It can also be applied to the production of felt balls which can be used for decoration, jewellery, toys etc. In this guide we will deal with the production of fabric.

Materials Required : Mernio Tops, hot water, oil-based natural soap (e.g. soft soap), a bamboo pad or bubble wrap.

1,
First place the wool fibers tightly on the bamboo pad or bubble wrap with the edges facing the same direction. Pay attention not to leave space between the stripes between the rows while placing the fibers one under the other.

2,
Then pour hot soapy water over and lift the one edge of pad/bubble wrap to roll in so that the wool can be pressed together inside. Put rubber bands on each side of the roll to prevent loosening.

3,
Press the roll by hands and start rolling in. Do this rolling procedure 30 times. Remove the rubber bands on each side of the roll and roll it out carefully.

4,
If there are any wrinkles on the felt, smooth it by hand and roll in the other edge of the pad. Do the same pressing and rolling procedure 30 times. Now you have your uncompleted felt fabric in one piece when you roll it out.

5,
Continue rolling and pressing to complete felting. Repeat the rolling procedure in different directions as much as possible in order to obtain the best result. So, the felt becomes tight properly and wool fibers are fully tight-knit fully.

The fabric obtained at the end will initially cover a place as much as 2/3 of the wools placed.

Wet felting process is also used for a lot of creative projects apart from making fabric. You can use this method to have small balls for making jewelry or toys for children. For such projects, wool fibers are soaked to make a bulk or pressed in hands.
