The Renault Clio was introduced in the UK during 1990 and ran until 1997, this is now refered to as the mk1 Clio. The mk1 range included some of the best hot hatches ever produced such as the 1.8 16v and 2.0i Williams.
The mk2 Clio introduced in 1998 with most versions being replaced with the Clio mk3 in 2005. But mk2 production continued until 2008 with editions such as the Campus as a cheaper alternative to the then new mk3.

The Clio mk2 had a major facelift in 2001 with larger headlamps. This face lifted mk2 if sometimes confusingly refered to as mk3. The Clio mk3 ran from 2008 being replaced with the mk Clio in 2013.
The mk3 Renault clio was bigger and went on the include the hot Clio 197 and sought after trophy model. A facelift version of the Clio mk3 went on sale in the UK mid-2009 with higher quality materials used for the interior and more standard equipment compared to the early mk3 non facelift
The Renault Clio mk4 has been around since 2013 and is still in production. Though hardly a super mini anymore being almost the size of the next class up with a wheelbase much longer than the Clio mk3 offering a more civilised ride and big car experience compared to predecessors.
