How To Wear Harem Trousers

Like if this guide is helpful
I wrote my first blog post about  harem trousers in 2009! Back then, the trend was just taking off, and most people considered it a passing fad. They thought the trousers were ugly or stupid, often commenting that they looked like saggy nappies or were reminiscent of MC Hammer. I, on the other hand, have always been a fan; I think the trousers are really stylish, not to mention super  comfortable, (second only to leggings on that front.) Five years after that initial blog post, I still find myself arguing with people over whether they're an acceptable piece of clothing to rock.

Plus size women can be even more hesitant about wearing harem trousers because they're afraid of looking sloppy or adding bulk. The opposite is true! The slouchiness of them can actually read as super chic as long as you find a cool way to style them. You can experiment with  different colours, I adore this cranberry pair. My favourite way to wear 'em is with a fashionable tee and a  leather moto jacket to add some structure. Throw on some cute  printed trainers to create the perfect casual chic outfit.

That's not to say they can't be worn with heels! I wore these harem trousers with a  sheer bodysuit, a bright  blazer, and fire engine red accessories, including strappy  platforms.  Because this pair is black, they're super versatile; they're easy to dress up or down, and can be taken from day to night with a simple change of shoes.

On the other end of the spectrum we have the super casual look, which can also be done without looking frumpy! I love these grey  harem joggers. In fact, the harem cut actually makes them cooler and more stylish than your average joggers --no one is going to think you're on the way to the gym when you wear these! I added a slouchy  tee and  trainer wedges to keep the laid back vibe, but I did add some statement  earrings just for a little bit of polish.
I hope this post helps prove that harem trousers are more stylish and versatile than many think--I've been defending them for 5 years now and I don't think they're going out of style any time soon.  They're a staple in my closet and I rotate them all the time--I definitely encourage you to try 'em out if you haven't yet!
