Throwing a sports theme party on a budget can be as simple as using decorations in your team colours and adding in a little creativity.  There are many times during the year when you might want to have a party with a sports theme.  Maybe someone in your family plays in a recreational sports league.  Maybe your kids want  sports theme birthday parties this year.  Knowing your team’s colours and having a good list of basic party supplies will have you on the road to a great party, without spending too much.

I like to start with my food table when I plan a party.  Parties always seem to be centred on food and drinks, so a fun food table can be a great focal point for your party.  A  plastic table cloth is the perfect, disposable way to start coordinating your party décor.  They come in many colours, shapes and sizes, perfect for any table.  Add a  table skirt in the same colour or a coordinating team colour for a little more formal look.

To give your table a festive look, toss some solid colour confetti between the food plates and add some  balloons in your team colours.  It’s fun to fill your balloons with  helium, if it’s in your budget.  But balloons give a party-look to a room, even when they’re filled with regular air.  You can hang a group of them from the ceiling, use them to create a wreath, or just toss some on the floor.

Another fun idea is to use  letter shaped balloons to spell out the name of your favourite team or a number balloon to feature your favourite player’s number.

One last thing for the food table,  tableware, don’t forget to buy plates, cups, napkins and plastic cutlery in your team’s colours.  If you’ve got a big group, buy half your packs in one colour and half in the other colour.  If your group is smaller, buy the plates and cups in one colour and the napkins and  plastic cutlery in the other.

Now that you’ve got your team colours firmly planted in your party room, it’s time for a little themed fun.  With the wide range of  sports party decorations available, it’s easy to create a  football, rugby, basketball, American football or a tennis party. (Yes, there are lots of other sports available too!)  With your team colours and a few items specific to your sport, you’re atmosphere will be perfect for a party!  If you want to get even more specific, there are also tons of team specific party items available for professional teams.

Don't forget to plan the food around your theme too!
If you want to go simple,  cupcake picks can make the plainest of cupcakes festive!  Use paper lunch bags or food boxes for popcorn and crisps.  Sports themed serving dishes are great for side dishes and dips.

DIY UTENSIL HOLDERS

Impress your guests down to the last detail.
These simple DIY utensil holders are a fantastic way to make sure everyone gets utensils and a napkin while showing off your team spirit!
Just use scissors to trim  paper lunch bags with a decorative edge.  Decorate with  team stickers or print out the name of your favourite team and attach with  washi tape.

Now, it’s just up to you to invite your family and friends and make sure the TV is ready…or you’ve got tickets to the big game, and get that party started!
