Picking the colour...

With Valentines Day coming next week I wanted to try a few different colours before hand to make sure the colour was just right on the night!
I came across a really lovely Valentines kit from GelNailsUK on ebay for £25! That's 3 limited edition colours and a top and base coat, bargain.  What better colour's to try than a princess glittery pink, kiss me quick red or natural yet pretty pink.

First things first

There are plenty of guides on nail preparation but just a quick how to:
  1. Make sure nails are clean and remove any existing nail polish ( I usually use an acetone remover for both ordinary and gel nails to save myself a fortune on removers)
  2. Use a cuticle scraper to push cuticles back and even out the nail followed by a cuticle remover. This will give your nails the professional salon manicure look (I tend to try and do this after a bath/ soaking my hands in warm water)
  3. File your nails into your desired shape, square, curved or really trendy spikes.

Application

Again there are a lot of guides on how to apply gel nails but here are the basics:
  1. Apply your base coat, don't use too much you want to make each layer as thin as you can. Put under your UV lamp for 2 mins.
  2. Apply the first layer of your chosen colour I went for the "kiss me red" from the Valentines range (see pictures above).  Again place hands under lamp for 2 mins.
  3. Repeat step 2 ( with lighter colours a 3rd coat is advisable to achieve a true consistent colour).
  4. Apply your top coat again, use sparingly.  And put under your lamp for 2 mins.
Finally use a prep and wipe solution to remove any of the sticky residue left behind and hey presto! You have Valentines Day ready nails. What better way to finish off an outfit!
