Be prepared to the hit the festivals like a pro this year!

The festival season is about to kick off and, with the likes of Reading, Bestival, Latitude and Boomtown on the horizon, you will be starting to think about packing up the essentials. Whether you are a seasoned festival-goer or a festival virgin, ensuring you are prepared means you will do them all like a pro this summer! As tempting as it will be to fill your luggage with cans of cider these are not necessities, well they might be but not compared with having somewhere to sleep. So here are a few things you really need to make sure you have packed first.

Your Festival Home

When choosing your tent, size is important! Think about how many people you will be sharing with and that it will also store your luggage. This is your home for the length of the festival and there is nothing worse than being pressed up against a tent wall as it leaks water from the pressure. If putting up a tent is not your forte why not opt for a pop-up-tent, you will have travelled to the festival and walked around looking for a camping spot, all you will want to do is sit down with a drink. This tent is up in seconds, so you can sit back and watch while other who aren't a pro like you struggle with their tent poles. Lastly remember that your tent will be one amongst thousands so you want it to stand out. This could either be achieved through a unique design or by attaching a flag to the roof.

Your Festival Bed

So you are at a festival, we all know you aren't likely to be getting your typical eight-hour sleep. But you want the little sleep you do get to be as comfortable as it can be so that you are refreshed and ready to enjoy the next day. Tents tend to get very cold at night, but extremely hot as soon as the sun comes up. So you will need a sleeping bag for warmth, then either a roll mat or a blow-up mattress for comfort. These are all compact and therefore easy to carry with your other belongings! However, bear in mind that the mat although the lighter of the two options, will not be quite as comfy as the mattress.

Carry the Essentials in Style

The most important thing to think about when packing for a festival is how you will carry your belongings. To start with a pro does not take a suitcase!  Festivals take place in fields, which means uneven terrain to negotiate whilst looking for your camping spot. The ideal way to carry your luggage is with a travel backpack. These are both spacious, but comfortable and easy to carry. As for the day, you want to be hands free to dance but at the same time know your belongings are safe. Depending on how much space you need, either a bum bag  or cross-body bag  will be ideal for this.

Don't Get Stuck in the Mud!

Although most festivals are across the Summer, we can't always rely on the British weather to bless us with sun. Festivals such as Glastonbury are notorious for rain!  There would be nothing worse than loosing a pair of  flip flops to the mud and spending the day protecting your tootsies from jumping feet. All pro festival-goers know that  wellies are the ideal footwear. They come in an array of funky designs, are available from ankle  to knee-length, provide comfort and will protect your feet whatever the weather. For extra warmth and comfort add welly socks, then you will really be the envy of all those wearing inadequate footwear!

Top Tip: Baby Wipes

Although showers are available at most camp sites, there are other more efficient ways to keep clean and fresh without spending half the day queuing for a wash. Baby wipes are most certainly not just for babies and you are guaranteed to go through at least a pack over the course of the weekend. Although you will probably have it covered up most of the time, dry shampoo will keep your hair looking and feeling fresh. Don't forget the paracetamol, those pesky hangovers won't stop you from enjoying the next day!  Most importantly take plenty of sun tan lotion. This will provide your body with some much needed moisture, and no one wants a bright red face in their festival photos!

Don't stop the music!

Portable Products

The music doesn't have to stop when you get back to the campsite! A portable speaker is small, lightweight and perfect to keep the party going. Don't worry about draining your battery as this can be topped up with an in-car charger if you have driven or a portable USB phone charger if you haven't. Your phone battery will run out faster than ever over a festival and you don't want to miss capturing any of those precious memories.... or be unable to contact your friends when you get so into the music you're not sure where they went. Top tip: turning your phone to airplane mode will make the battery last much longer between charges.  Finally save yourself from falling over tent pegs in the dark with a torch, this will come in handy particularly when trying to find the toilets at night.
