Does the seller list the release date?

The game you have been waiting for has finally been announced (sometime in Spring) with a vague timeline, which is frustrating when publishers are so cagey about their games and even more so when sellers post a false date on their listings. Before clicking 'Buy it Now' check that the seller has done their research by copying and pasting the game title and supposed date into your search engine. If the dates are conflicting wait a little longer until its a month before the game was rumoured to be released. By then publishers will have a firm date for their much anticipated release.  Note: Publishers have been known to delay sometimes even cancel on rare occasions the release of their game, don't blame your seller as its out of their control.

A further detail you should pay close attention to is when sellers claim they will dispatch your item. The day of release or the day after? This is important on both sides, as some distributors get it the day before and send it out so you can have it the next day, others the day after. Read the listing more closely so you and your seller on the same wavelength when you enquire why your game hasn't arrived yet.

Buyers Note: Please be aware that EU release dates are always different to the host countries release. So if your game is made by Square Enix Japan, expect there to be a different date for its home release and international release.

When to buy?

If any of you have seen the Halo 5 beta test then you know there is a long wait before anyone will be holding a genuine copy of the game in their hands. Be careful about pre-ordering a game half a year in advance. 1-3 months sure but half a year? Prices change rapidly in the gaming industry and so do add ons, special editions, booster packs and all levels of awesomeness publishers decide they want to include in the official release. Do your research and then decide a little closer to the date which version of the game you want to invest in.

Because your special.

Don't you love it when you buy a game after it comes out and you miss out on all that special DLC content they saved for the gamers who were biting their nails off in anticipation? You don't? Well if you want to get that added, content pre-order games often come with additional features and awards that do not come out in the regular release. Check that out on the listing to make sure you know that DLC content may not be included. Never know that extra weapons mod or snazzy skin customisation may come in handy in a tough boss fight...
