SO YOU ARE LOOKING AT GIBSON'S ON EBAY. HERE'S WHAT YOU DO BEFORE YOU PART WITH YOUR HARD EARNED CASH. YOU COPY THE PICTURES INTO YOUR 'MY PICTURES' FOLDER. GIVE THEM ALL A DIFFERENT NAME SO THAT YOU CAN EASILY FIND THEM AGAIN. GET THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THE GUITAR FROM THE AUCTION ADVERT OR FROM THE SELLER. ARMED WITH THIS INFO, SEND AN EMAIL TO 'GIBSON UK' OR TO 'GIBSON EUROPE', INCLUDE THE PICS AND THE SERIAL NUMBER OBVIOUSLY. GIBSON WILL EITHER CONFIRM THAT THE GUITAR IS/LOOKS REAL OR THAT IT DOES NOT SHOW UP IN THEIR DATABASE THUS MAKING IT A FAKE. NOTE: SERIALS NUMBERS FROM BEFORE THE MID 1980s MAY NOT BE IDENTIFIABLE BY GIBSON BECAUSE THE DATABASE WHICH LINKS THE SERIAL NUMBERS TO PARTICULAR MODELS AND PAINT FINISHES DID NOT START UNTIL THE MID 1980s. I hope this helps, see my other two guides on buying Gibson guitars.
