Hi I've just read a review on the xj 40 and the problems the owner had with it. My experience was good overall. I purchased a 1992 Model auto 3.2 L Half leather interior. The car had 65000 miles on the clock and full jag service history. I owned the car for three years and thoroughly enjoyed it. fantastic ride and comfort. Turning slow bends at speed was a bit hair raising, as the car rolls a bit and you have to hold on, to me this felt like living. My car had no rust. fuel consumption was 25 to 30 mpg The bad points I got carried away and paid to much for it initially, goodness knows why as it had been for sale for 2 months. However I really didn't spend much other than running costs. Two new front Shocks cheap and easy to fit Fuel sensor Some bushing Wheel bearing Head lining started to sag I did not renew Walnut fascia peeled off in places Very slight engine oil leak not really a problem Gear changes could have been smoother Summary I am going to buy another xj40 The last models 92 - 94 were much improved on earlier models Parts are cheap and plentiful if you look around. The car can be diy fixed or any good garage without spending a fortune. Find one with little or no rust and you can drive in style for £700 - £1200 A EURO BOX THEY ARE NOT. Hope you get one. Cheers Dave.
