Alice: @eBay_UK_Alice

Full-time mum, permanently chic and temporary eBay elf, ready to advise about festive gifts for children and the family.

Darlings, I realise we all lead busy lives these days, filled with more than a dash of bijou luxury and, for us mothers and ladies unafraid to lunch, indulgence is time spent being waited-on, catching up with friends and having a glass topped-up with something decadent without shifting a finger. But is that the path to true happiness? Whisper it quietly - this lifestyle has kept the wrinkles away, so I can't complain!

We shouldn't forget the pleasure of others though, and no matter how much we enjoy being pampered, spoiling our nearest and dearest at Christmas - our beloved little ones especially - is a deserved time for us to kick off our Blahniks, relax and spread the warmth around. As much as we'd like to make a gift as bespoke and precious as our children, there's not always time to create something memorable when the finest festive decorations allow you to express your inner Nicky Haslam and turn your home into an enchanted grotto the kids will love and adore you for as much as any other memorable present.

That's the magic of Christmas, amazement lighting up the faces of our cherubs. Doesn't the thought of their wide smiles and thankful, big eyes make you feel warm and cosy already? Part of the fun is still for them to tear open some thoughtfully chosen gifts, and, as ever, don't be afraid of a bargain. We couldn't shop until we drop without one! So, take a peek at this selection of wonderful ideas, and don't forget to thank me - but not until your little ones have thanked you first.

1. Tumblin' Stuart

Honestly, how adorable is Stuart? With the regularity he topples over, anyone would think he'd knocked back a few too many Martinis! But that's the adult element of Christmas, and we'll have plenty of time to mix some lavish cocktails once the children have eventually tired of playing with this. They must eventually...

2. Sing-a-long Elsa

Don't be afraid of saying it - karaoke is naff, and has no place at a sophisticated party. Ever. This will keep the children more than occupied though, and isn't her dress just so chic? That colour! You can never pass down styling tips to your daughters soon enough either, so Elsa provides both fun and fashion advice.  Just like motherhood!

3. Minion Fart Blaster

Confession time - we all do it. Even the Queen farts, but with royal approval and a courtier on hand to waft the regal odour away. We can't all rely on ours smelling of the house of Windsor or having a throne to absorb the noise all her subjects find amusing. Farts are funny, whether young or old or King or Queen. They bring us all together too, as does Christmas. You know this gift makes sense.

4. Transformers... Robots In Disguise

Just look at those shoulder-pads! This defender of the world from the peril of fiendishly anti-fashion robots must be channelling his innerJoan Collins from her ravishing Dynasty days, and that's never a bad idea. Young boys will of course not remember the era of 1980's power-dressing, but they can flex their minds in saving us all from the threat of badly attired enemies.  They must be controlled!

5. Pie Face Board Game

France gave us haute-cuisine, haute-couture, delicate patisserie, tarts and flans. For all those things, we should be truly grateful. As we should for the good old British pie, as rough and rugged as the Diet Coke man from the adverts who sets my pulse racing. Please note no whipped cream is included with this game, but if your hobbies and the contents of your fridge are anything like mine, you'll have plenty to hand.

6. Star Wars The Force Awakens Kylo Ren Deluxe Electronic Lightsaber

Kylo Ren isn't the latest designer whose clothes are flying off the shelves of Dover Street Market, nor the next in-line for the top job at Comme des Garcons. He has an eye for a fetching cloak though, which gives your little boy the chance to drape himself in a curtain and wave this wand around like a druid. It is a wand, right? One can never tell these days.

7. Nerf N Strike Elite Retaliator Blaster Nerf Gun

A good party often results in a trashed home - think of it as an occupational hazard. Cleaning up is a trivial price to pay for pushing the boat out, but avoid as far as possible any use of yacht-rock to keep the night on track. Duran Duran have not aged well. With this gun, you're giving your little one a licence to litter the house with bullets. He's already learning from his parents how to messy up the place, so think of this gift as additional future training.

8. Shopkins Food Fair Scoops Ice Cream Truck

No weekend is complete without a visit to a local farmers' market, an opportunity to parade our good taste with likeminded people. While you'll see the warning about choking parts, I must point out I can't guarantee the provenance of this ice cream either. They may not be hand-reared, certified organic flavours, none of that matters when it's smeared all over your face.

9. Match Attax Trading Cards

Footballers regularly make fools of themselves on the pitch, diving around and wiping their snotty noses on their sleeves. Yuck, so uncouth. You'll never catch me ruining my cashmere pashmina. Their fashion sense leaves a lot to be desired too, adopting a 'throw it all together and see what sticks' approach where everything falls off into indecency. None of that matters with these cards and your boy won't care anyway. After all, these cards are for his eyes only.

10. Lego

Ah, so timeless. Just like a killer little black dress, some toys transcend their time and fondly remain part of a collection, and this is surely one of them. Shaggy is something of a baggy-clad, hippy throwback, but that never came between him and Scooby-Doo and their shared love. It shouldn't bother you either, if you can manage to drag your eyes from that awful haircut. just think what a trip to a leading salon would do for him...
