In fact I think it should carry a warning "Private listing can be dangerous to your health"! There are a few sensitive areas when I agree it is preferable but this doesnt really apply to most expensive items, Cars, mobiles, to name but a few. When keeping listings private you are in fact innocently aiding and abetting fraudsters by giving them a marvelous cloak to hide behind. This allows them to bid on 100 or more mobiles etc and remain undetected. This not only allows them to make many fake winning bids which they have no intention of paying for, ruining the sellers listing and causing untold distress and work in trying to get credit back. It also allows account thieves to remain hidden until someone realises they have bought something for maybe thousands!!! This involves a great deal of work and distress in trying to get account restored and any monies returned. If you have then sent the item and have not used Pay Pal them sorry you are way out of pocket.
If the ID is visible then it is easy for anyone to see if the same bidders are consistently placing high bids on items and therefore much easier to report. It takes some time to report such things and with bidders ID private one can only put bidders 8,9,10 on item nos --! Bidders ID visible and one can say bidder "snowtoday" has placed very high bids on so many items. Much quicker for EBay to investigate and hopefully remove them and for pay Pal to restore persons account to rightful owner if it proves to be stolen.
I am sure that if users could see the overall result they would be horrified to know how much they are helping fraudsters and malicious bidders with little else to do.
I really think this option should be removed from the majority of items but at present the best thing we can do when listing is allow bidders names to be visible. We have to help ourselves and each other in this fight to combat fraudster or they will continue unabted.
PLEASE GIVE SERIOUS THOUGHT BEFORE LEAVING BIDDERS ID PRIVATE -- it only perpetuates the crime.
I dont know all the answers but you are free to contact and I will try and help if possible.
Many thanks if you have taken the trouble to read this and please take the action open to you.
