I just got back from a holiday in Mexico, and I had an amazing time! I planned out all of my outfits before I got there (which I know is common when people go out of town, but I’m the type of person to throw some things in a bag and go, so it was new for me!)
The funny thing about going on a tropical holiday is that I found myself wearing things I'd never wear otherwise. For example, I always tell people I hate  maxi dresses, but apparently all rules go out the window when I cross international borders, because I bought a bunch specifically for this trip. I loved the colour of this  orange maxi, and the fact that it has leather trim and a  cute gold belt--it's all in the details.

This emerald  convertible dresses was my most popular look from the trip--people loved it both in real life and on Instagram. I love that you can tie the straps in dozens of different ways to accomplish different styles, and it's a super travel friendly fabric. It takes up almost no space in your bag, and stays pretty wrinkle free. I paired it with a  flower crown and a delicate layered necklace for the ultimate Frida-inspired regal look.

Here's the same  convertible dress in a colourful print. I tied this one differently too, which makes it more appropriate for a casual daytime look. I topped it off with a  beach hat and dangly beaded earrings.

I did pack other options besides maxis, of course. This stretchy jumpsuit was the perfect thing to throw on while I explored downtown Puerto Vallarta. It's super comfy and effortlessly stylish. I wore it with a bright bag and  colourful espadrilles.

My boyfriend is just as into fashion as I am, and we both love stripes! I think they look great on vacation, so as cheesy as it may seem, we decided to wear them on the same day. My  dress is stretchy and cotton so it's breathable in the tropical heat. We wore this to dinner but with some flats or sneakers this dress could easily work for day time as well.

A great  swimsuit is an obvious must-have, but I'm also a big fan of kimonos over swimwear. Instead of a traditional cover up, kimonos are easy to get on and off, and others can still see your suit when you have it on. Bright colours and prints are always a great option because it adds personality to a solid suit.

May seem like a no-brainer, but don't forget a cute beach towel! I was so happy I had something nice for my trip and wasn't forced to lay on a boring white one provided by the hotel. Other accessories you'll need include sunglasses, sun tan lotion, a wide-brim beach hat, great reading material, and a beach bag to carry everything in!
Hope you guys are staying warm (or will be somewhere warm soon)--I can't wait for Spring to get here!
