Napier are often overlooked and dont command the same high prices of designers such as Trifari and Corocraft, so I have put together a brief history of this often overlooked and unsung hero of costume jewellery.
Napier is the oldest Costume Jewellery company being founded in 1875 in North Attleboro Massachusetts. It started under the name of Whitney & Rice, later becomming Carpenter & Bliss, this changed to Bliss Company then Napier Bliss after James Napier joined the company as president in
1920, before finally settling on Napier Co.
They generally made silverware but their production switched to modern jewellery after WW1, with their designs becomming highly sought after and collectable, such as chunky gilt metal charm bracelets and early sterling designs. The company ceased trading in 1999.
