Boston based footwear giant  New Balance has gone through a lot of changes in the past 15 years. Once reserved for professional athletes and the uniform for mid-40s office workers at the weekend, the company has transitioned into being recognised as one of the leaders in modern footwear culture.

With a string of much-followed social media stars, contracts with well known high street brands and cult followings through many high-profile collaborations, New Balance has set the bar high. The company knows how to start a buzz and create a demand, all the while still coming across as a brand for the people.

Over those 15 years the company has created some noteworthy collaborations and colourways. We take a look at some of our favourites from recent years.

New Balance X J.Crew Moonshot Collab

American clothing retailer J.Crew has sparked up quite the relationship with New Balance over the past few seasons. J.Crew saw a lot of potential in New Balance's versatile silhouette and knew it would sit perfectly against their preppy Americana clothing. In June 2016 J.Crew collaborated with  New Balance on the Moonshot 997, which commemorates the anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 mission.

New Balance EPIC TR Collection

New Balance teamed up with four European footwear brands in early 2016 to create a limited edition collection of its EPIC-TR trainer. Hanon, 24 Kilates, sneakersnstuff and Firmament all got to give their own spin on the brand's football boot inspired silhouette. The collection was a little different from the usual collabs, with muted colours and premium leathers being used over an under-utilised silhouette.

New Balance Seaside Pack

Not every New Balance collection is a collaboration. The brand releases a new reworked trainer pack each season, which either reflects current trends (away from fashion), moods and social change. Back in April 2014  New Balance dropped the Seaside Pack; a limited edition release of the 557 trainer in two pastel colourways. We saw the brand drawing heavy inspiration from their British roots and summer beach holidays.

New Balance X United Arrows

New Balance has long been ingrained into Japanese culture. A combination of comfort, style and eye-catching colourways led them to becoming a staple in many Japanese households. United Arrows is a high end retailer which can be found across mainland Japan; concentrating on Japanese, American and European premium menswear.  The two came together in early 2016 to rework the classic 996 model, in a minimal white and beige colourway.

New Balance X Herschel

This collection was released in Autumn 2013 and saw  Herschel and New Balance work together for the first time. Herschel burst onto the everyday carry and luggage scene around 2010, with its modern take on classic vintage hiking and travel gear. Affordable prices and stylish designs led them to become a well-known name in men's and women's clothing and accessories. This collab came at Herschel's peak, with the 420 and H710 being remodelled in signature Herschel patterns, fabrics and colours.

New Balance X Norse Projects

This partnership made perfect sense. Scandinavian contemporary menswear brand Norse Projects started to gather a whole load of momentum around 2010; appearing in menswear and key retailers across every continent. Timed perfectly with the emergence of a whole new youth market for New Balance, the two brands teamed up to create a perfect new range for streetwear fans across the world.  The Danish Weather pack was released in 2013, on the ever-popular 1500 model. This collection is pretty hard to find now but the classic 1500 model is still one of the brand's staple shapes.
