Pick of an Author - Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Ignatious Conan Doyle was a Scottish physician and writer-probably the best short story writer ever. As well as Sherlock Holmes mainly written for the Strand magazine, he also wrote about Professor Challenger and populised the myths of fairies and the supernatural.

Here are his 5 top publications, according to Amazon.co.uk's grade and number of reviews. (note the Amazon.com website has different levels/numbers of reviews) Note I've tried to find the first general editions under review, rather than illustrated editions, or audio editions, as it confuses the rating. In the case of short stories, I've used the first book to feature it. As all the reviews are the same, you will have to rely on number of reviewers, and the order of the searches...

(Note that complete publications of Sherlock Holmes are most common, but that doesn't tell you his best set of Sherlock stories, so I've ignored them.)

1. The Hound of the Baskervilles 5/5 (13 reviews)

2. Sherlock Holmes (also known as the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes) 5/5 (13 reviews)

3. The Lost World 5/5 (5 reviews)

4. The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes 5/5 (4 reviews)

5. The Complete Brigadier Gerard Stories 5/5 (3 reviews)
