Renault Laguna 2

I had a VW Bora as a company car, however its is a little on the small side and I have kids, and they go very well in diesel form. However I dropped a note to the car fleet manager asking for something bigger preferably an estate - lo and behold enter one Renault Laguna, 1.9 DCI six speed hatchback. Initially I thought what have I done to deserve this - I cannot remember being nasty to the guy!. Oh well stuck with a Renault....

Well this car has earned my undying respect, I had it for16 months, recieved  with 23,000 miles and now it has just under the 100,000 mile marker. In this time it has consistenly averaged over 45mpg and I rev the bugger! The highest I've seen is 61mpg coming back through France @ a steady 70 odd mph. The comfort is superb with a multi adjustable seats. My model is a privelige and has all the bells and whistles but a Dynamique is nearly as close on spec. The car must be good as my kids never complain.  The boot space is very good and can accomodate all the holiday stuff and some.

Servicing can be expensive as my car goes into a franchised dealer, but as its only due at 18000 intervals its not so bad, but a local garage could save some money. Faults in my hands - the headlight leveller played up and was replaced and thats all. The tyres last for over 40k a set. The zenon head lights are bright but not as focused as a regular bulb and tend to emit a blue light.

The specification is very high with climate control, auto wipers, central locking (which can lock down if required at over 5 mph). Auto window / sunroof closure. no key!. Sunroof and remote radio cd controls. rear blinds built into the doors are good for the kids.

Handling and ride is very smooth and can corner at high speeds quite safely but some body roll is induced. The ride is smooth but does not make you feel sick.....

All in all a most surprising car, I just bought a merc c 250 td auto as I may be leaving my current job and now wish that a Renault laguna was my first choice. Wanna swap anyone!

Try one out you'll be surprised and they represent very good value for the money.
