Holly O'Boyle is not your typical fashion blogger. Behind the scenes she's a high flying business woman, designing and creating on trend clothing, featuring references from pop culture and music we all know and love.

After working for the family business (Neon Candy UK), which continues to run successfully, Holly and her two cousins (Sally and Lynzie Wood) decided to take the plunge and set up their very own store on eBay, creating fun personalised tees. Fast forward a year and the brand is now working with popular fashion bloggers, such as Victoria of In the Frow and Sarah Ashcroft , and Holly is brushing shoulders with fashion designers, including Henry Holland.

The business and blogging has also helped create new friendships, connections and opportunities for Holly, who took some time out of her busy schedule to talk about her experiences with her blog and fashion line.

Holly said: " I never thought that I would end up working for myself or running a clothing line - it just seemed unachievable! I'd always worked online and in digital marketing since graduating and loved it.

"I'd worked with my family business for a while and whilst looking at ways we could expand [and] diversify our online store, myself and my cousins decided to set up Rock On Ruby. At the start we just thought we would start small, trial it and see what happened."

"We've pretty much just finished our first year of trade, we came up with the idea for Rock On Ruby last May and started trading in June. We already had the machinery required to print on clothing, but it was mainly used for printing personalised tops that would be used for birthdays and events, such as hen parties.

"We decided to re-brand and started out with a small section on another clothing website and [an]  eBay store! We celebrated our one year anniversary by launching our own website and are now online at rockonrubyclothing.com. Very exciting!
It's been a long time coming and we can wait to get our brand out there!"

Working regularly with bloggers and collaborating on designs inspired Holly to dedicate some time to her very own fashion blog, Rock on Holly, which follows her everyday style, as well as beauty and fashion events she regularly attends.

"I've always been really into fashion and blogged on and off for a while." Holly said. "When Rock On Ruby launched, we started working with bloggers and I realised that I should really be using my own blog more, and that it would be great to use it to style up our tops and tees. From there, it just grew!

"We wouldn't be where we are today without the support of fashion bloggers.
Events are a great way of networking and meeting new brands [and] bloggers. I would definitely say that blogging has introduced me to a lot of new people and I have a close knit group of blogger friends that I often hang out with now. Very handy for tasking blog photos!"

Holly actually met one of her closest friends through her business and blog; Gail of The Equinox Fashion. "A lot of people think that Gail and I were already friends when we started going to fashion events together last year." Holly said on her blog. "But actually I only met Gail through Rock On Ruby last June!

"She contacted us by email after discovering our tees on Instagram and we loved her Street Style so much we sent a tee all the way to Bangkok! Gail and I then stayed in touch by email and became pen pals, we finally met a few months later when she moved to Manchester in September to do a Masters course in Fashion Marketing."
The pair now attend blogging events together and go out for dinner to catch up regularly.

Rock on Ruby is all about customised clothing and aims to offer pieces that reflect your personality and tap into the things you love. Customers can either buy ready made pieces or add a personal touch to the clothing, adding their name or coming up with their very own slogan. "The personalisation aspect was something that we were doing with our tops before we started Rock On Ruby," Holly said.

"The aim of ROR was to allow customers to create fashionable, and customisable clothing, that gives them the opportunity to really put their unique stamp on something. I think this is why it's been so popular with fashion bloggers." The brand has also caught the attention of various celebs too, including 'It girls' Suki Waterhouse, Alexa Chung and Poppy Delevigne.

"We had the PR agency for Suki, Alexa and Poppy Delevingne get in touch with us asking for tops for the girls, as they were featured on our It Girls Tee, in the run up to Fashion Week."

Holly and the team have also created a fun range of gym wear, to help people feel fashionable while they work out. "Our gym wear is really popular!" Holly said. "We've seen a huge rise in lifestyle and fitness this year and we know people want to look good at the gym.

"The ability to customise your own gym top is really unique and makes a great gift for any gym bunnies! We're a very active team and often go to classes together after work - albeit often reluctantly on my part..."

When asked about her favourite item in her wardrobe Holly said: "My favourite item is the Dinosaur Sweater from our new Dom and Ink collection, inspired by Jurassic World!
I love to wear this for work teamed with my Topshop Mom Jeans, pumps and a checked shirt for a relaxed vibe."

Holly also talked about how the collaboration came about, "I met Dom at a blogger event at Manchester Arndale last December and we discovered we had mutual friends!" she said. "I loved his style and asked if he would be interested in creating an exclusive top for our store. Once the creative juices started flowing, this quickly turned into a full range  - with more items coming soon..."

When considering the future of the brand, and what trends they intend to take on next, Holly said that they are loving the latest retro styles. "We've brought in some preppy polo shirts and bowling bags, to go with the style and are introducing a range of retro tees with the coloured trim necklines, that will have a different font on them to fit in with the 70s vibe!

"Our plan for the next year is to grow the brand and get our name out there! We've just produced a lot of new products such as slogan make up bags, tote bags, beach bags, crop tops and pillow cases. There's a real mix of stuff all in our unique ROR style and we're constantly evolving so you never know what might happen next..."
