Introduction

This manual is for the ULTRA Light SJ4000 NEW 160g RTF 2-Axis CNC calibrated DJI Gimbal Gopro, sold by copteRCentre, at:

Please note that while the steps described in this guide may work for other gimbals, you should not attempt to use it for any other gimbal as it may damage it.

Your gimbal has been pre-calibrated and does not need setup. Should there be any issues with the configuration; the guide below will help to reset/change it.

Resetting the gimbal using the Reset button on the controller board

Before using the setup program, try to reset the gimbal using the white Reset button (Fig. 1.)
1 click: Calibrate accelero sensor
2 clicks: Calibrate Gyro sensor
3 clicks: Set tilt angles by hand
 

Installing the setup program

1. If this does not reset your gimbal to a correct state, go to (after removing spaces):

2. Download SimpleBGC_GUI_2_2b2.zip (5Mb 13.08.2013)
3. If Windows cannot find the gimbal driver, download it from:
www . silabs . com /products/mcu/pages/usbtouartbridgevcpdrivers.aspx
Note: DO NOT try to upgrade the firmware of the controller board using this program as it may damage your controller.
4. Connect the PC to the board by micro USB cable (battery should be disconnected during  the calibration process). Choose the appropriate COM port in the drop-down list and click Connect.

Using the setup program

The accelero sensor and gyro calibration can be done on the Basic tab (Fig. 2.) using the CALIB.ACC and CALIB.GYRO buttons.
Note: Always keep the camera holder plate with the sensor on leveled surface during the calibration process.

1. Push the CALIB. ACC button first, hold the gimbal leveled and wait till the green led stops flashing on the board (4-5 seconds). After this push CALIB.GYRO  button, hold the gimbal steady and wait until the leds stop flashing.
2. Set PID controller and motor power (Fig.1.):
ROLL:  P=12 , D =0,14 D=20
PITCH: P=10 D=0,14  D=6
PITCH POWER = 90 for Mobius, and GoPro, and ROLL POWER = 90 for Mobius and 100 for Gopro or SJ4000
NUM. POLES = 14 for both ROLL and PITCH

SETUP TILT or Pitch Control (for wider movement)

  • Connect only Gnd  and Signal pin of your receiver channel (or in F2 port in Naza/Phantom 1 or 2 FC ) to A0 port in the gimbal board GND (is bottom) and Signal (top pins). The A0 port is shown on Fig. 3.

Note: Never use middle pin (usually red servo wire) as it is the power supply and is not needed for pitch or tilt control. Use only the white signal and and black ground wires to connect the gimbal board with your receiver or flight controller see pictures below:

  • Go to RC settings TAB (Fig. 4.) and change Pitch control minimum and maximum angle to -90 and + 90 degrees.
  •  Enable the gimbal control in the assistant PC program of the Naza on the Gimbal tab. You can adjust pitch control between -1000 and 1000. It is recommended to set automatic gain control to 0 or 1.0 for pitch.

You can check the PWM control signal on Real time data Tab as you move your control potentiometer on your RC radio. (Fig. 5.).
3. Press WRITE button, disconnect the gimbal from the PC and power up the gimbal.

Saving your changes

Press WRITE button, disconnect the gimbal from the PC and power up the gimbal.
If the gimbal does not level first automatically, disconnect and reconnect it with the battery, hold your camera in leveled position and wait until the gimbal starts up.
 

Powering the gimbal options

You can use any power source which provide 10-12.6 voltage on your flying platform. In case of Phantoms the below pictures shows the examples to use FPV cable for powering the gimbal by using JST female connector
