When hoovering gets a bit much an automatic vacuum cleaner is the next best thing

These days, we don’t have to boil water over an open fire or scrub our clothes by hand. We don’t even have to stand up to change the TV channel or move from our seats to do the weekly shop. Technology has come on leaps and bounds in recent years and while it has made our lives easier in many ways, it has also made many individuals, families and entire nations a lot more sluggish. There really does seem to be a device for almost every task out there, so let’s take a look at some of the best gadgets for lazy people:

Tea making has never been so easy

iKettle

It takes just a few minutes for the kettle to boil, but when you’re tired, grumpy and thirsty in the morning, that first cuppa can’t come soon enough – particularly if you can’t wake up properly without a caffeine hit. The good news is, the iKettle can be switched on from your smartphone while you’re still in bed and will stay warm until you’re ready to use the water. Pretty cool, right?

And, if you simply can’t be bothered to wait around while your tea brews, you might also want to think about getting yourself a cute little tea timer which will dip the teabag into the water and pop it back up after a set amount of time. Yes, the world has quite literally gone mad.

Self-Stirring Mug

This ingenious invention is ideal for anyone who finds swirling a spoon around in a mug far too much effort, it’ll do all the ‘hard work’ for you with just a push of a button. And all it needs is a couple of AAA batteries.

Beer Pouring Robot

Why overexert yourself pouring a beer when you can get a mechanical friend to do this painstaking task on your behalf? The Asahi Robocco BeerBot, for instance, not only holds up to six bottles of beer in its refrigerated belly but it’ll also pop open your favourite beverage and serve it up in a glass, quenching your thirst in a super-cool fashion.

What’s more, if your mouth is as dry as the Gobi Desert but you can’t be bothered to get off the couch, a beer-fetching robot could be just what you need. That’s right, models including the PR2 humanoid robot developed by Willow Garage can go to the fridge and deliver you a bottle of your choice. If your preferred drink is not available, PR2 will alert you and let you pick another, cracking it open at your command.

Take a look at PR2 in action for yourself:

The Clapper

Imagine the scene. You’re reading a book in bed and start to fall asleep. You realise you’re nodding off but really can’t muster the strength to get up and turn off the lights. In this situation a clapper light is a must-have device, as it allows you to control up to two devices by simply clapping your hands.

Electronic Slimming Belt

If you’d much rather put your feet up than head to the gym, an electronic slimming belt could be the way forward. There are many different kinds available, but slimming devices such as the ABGymnic Belt work by sending thousands of minute electrical pulses to target areas of your body in order to stimulate the contraction and relaxation of muscles. This might sound rather daunting but essentially it’s like doing an endless number of sit-ups without the hassle of actually doing them.

The Segway

One of the best inventions to have hit Lazy Town of late is the Segway, a two-wheeled motor-powered transportation device that can automatically balance itself and transport people from A to B with ease.

With just steering to think about it makes walking look like hard work and is ideal for those who want to get around quickly, without putting one foot in front of the other. Again, there are several models to choose from but with many reaching 20kmph you can move around effortlessly whether you’re indoors or out.
