Anything is possible with Cross stitch!

You've never cross stitched before - so where do you begin?

There are so many different types of people in the world who cross stitch - chances are you already know one or two!  It is a great hobby as it is so easy to pick up and put down and needs so very few specialist pieces of equipment.  The easiest way to start to learn to cross stitch is to buy a small kit - everything you need apart from a pair of scissors is included.

What's a cross stitch kit?

Basically a cross stitch kit, provides you with everything you will need to produce a finished piece of cross stitch, apart from a pair of scissors. It will include the fabric needed to produce the cross stich - this varies and is allocated a number linked to the number of holes in a given piece (but you don't need to worry about that yet!), it will include the all the threads in all the different colours needed to complete the project. It will also include a chart - this shows you what colours of thread you need to cross stitch with and where, to complete the piece. Most kits also include a needle - the correct size to use with the fabric provided in the kit. Also larger kits will have thread sorter card to enable you to organise the threads, to help avoid getting them tangled and so you can find the one you need easily.

So where do I start?

If were you I would start with a small kit - ideally linked to something that you are interested in - so do you have a passion for a certain breed of dog or do you really like flowers?  Simply search for 'cross stich +?????? +kit' - this will make it easier to narrow down the searches - if you aren't particularly bothered about the  subject then just search for 'cross stitch +kit'.  Don't forget to sort by price to get the best deals - if you are in no hurry for your kit then search worldwide - there are loads of real bargains in the USA, including the p&p!

Key piece of information!

To get your finished item looking as good as possible, you need to make sure that all of your stitches run the same way!  By that I mean that you make sure that you make each stitch look the same.
Convention in cross stitch terms, is that you begin by making the diagonal stich that runs from the bottom right hand corner to the top left hand corner first, then make the stitch that runs from the bottom left hand corner to the top right hand corner second.  If you have a row of stitches to make, then you can do a row of all the first stitches and then come back across the top with a row of second stitches.

I think you are ready to have a go now - HAPPY STITCHING!!!!!!!!
