Spotting a fake Louis Vuitton

There are several ways to spot a fake Louis Vuitton. Firstly, they only have production companies in France, Germany and the USA so anything labelled 'Made in China' or 'Made in Korea' is a no-no! Secondly, all Louis Vuitton products are single-stitched in one unbroken line so any double-stitching or over-stitching anywhere on the product is a sure indicator that it is a fake. Fakes are normally made of plastic rather than real leather and will smell plasticky, real ones will smell good and leathery and will be supple, not stiff. Louis Vuitton handbags are never lined, the inside of the leather is sueded instead, so a lining always shows it to be a fake. Same with their shoes. The quality of the piece should be top-notch - all stitching should be even, tight, small and neat, the item shouldn't be lop-sided in any way, and the interior and undersides should be as good a quality and finish as the top. Zips will be coated metal, never plastic. If the product doesn't look and feel like it would be worth £300 in Selfridges or Harrods then it probably isn't!
