MANDY. D.C. Thomson. 1 21st Jan 1967-1991 (becomes Mandy & Judy)
#1 turns up on E Bay occasionally. One sold for £35.56 in Nov 2007 in what looked like a FN. Amazing that the annuals are still going! They started in 1971. I have a copy of 2007 but not seen a 2008 yet...

MIGHTY WORLD OF MARVEL. Marvel UK. 1  7th Oct 1972-329 17th Jan 1979 (becomes Marvel Comic) (see Spiderman Comics Weekly, Avengers, Planet of the Apes, Dracula Lives)

The second wave of Marvel reprints in the UK started here. Wham and Pow in particular introduced a whole generation to the Marvel Silver Age. As soon as Marvel US decided to halt distribution of their comics in UK newsagents, there was a gap to be filled. The paper quaity wasn't up to much and the colouring was pretty poor and random but all that great art and all those great characters were there to be enjoyed. The free gift with issue #1 was a very popular Hulk transfer, the best since the Spiderman transfer that came with Pow #2. Recent E Bay sale (Oct 2007) £75.44 FN- with transfer. The Hulk transfer does sometimes show its age though with cracks appearing. It would add £30-£40 or so to the value. #2 had a Spiderman transfer which I think is harder to find and adds £40-£50 and #3 had 12 Marvel Stickers on a sheet - very scarce! This adds £60-£70 to the value of issue #3. Every sticker in place though, nothing missing or lifting.

MISTY. Fleetway. 1  4th Feb 1978-101 12th Jan 1980 (joins Tammy)
A comic with a great cult following and even its own dedicated web-site. Misty was a different kind of girls's comic featuring supernatural and even horror with a subtle hint of sexuality. There were parallel worlds, powers of telekinesis and often sad, unresolved endings. No issue was published for the 6th January 1979 owing to a publisher's strike. The free gift Blue Fish Lucky Charm Bracelet is quite sought after and adds £30 to the value I would have thought. Misty lived on in her annuals from 1979-1986, 3 Holiday Specials from 1979-1981 and a The Best of Misty Monthly which ran 8 issues from February to September 1986. Watch that the 1979 Special still has the Misty poster at the centrefold.
