DOCTOR WHO ANNUAL/YEARBOOK. World Distributors/Marvel UK. 1965-present
Very collectible set of annals, particularly the early ones and more so the Patrick Troughton incarnations. The surprise one is the 1971 Jon Pertwee 'pink' annual. Supposedly rare owing to printing and distribution problems but you know what? I don't think it's that tough to find after all. I must have seen at least 20 copies on E Bay so far this year and it just keeps on turning up. Traditionally it would sell for over £100 in anything approaching nice condition (and I do mean nice!!). I suppose for true Near Mint, a premium of £150-£200 is right. But don't over-pay on this one. Believe me, it's not rare. It does show up so be patient and get it at a comfortable price. Nice cover on this 1971 annual by Ron Smethhurst but also beware there's a puzzle inside that is often completed in biro which ruins the clean look of the interior. Always ask your E Bay vendor about any puzzles or games within an annual. I've chosen to picture this annual instead of the first one from 1965 which is pretty common by the way! So don't over-pay for that one! The 2008 annual is rather groovy with a full cover hologram.

Free gift transfers with issue #1 are pretty common and you'd expect them to be part of the comic. They were attached to the front cover rather than loose inside so many copies on E Bay have them attached as standard. In fact issues #2 and #3 had a free sheet of transfers and they're pretty common. £3-4 in Near Mint with transfers I'd say.

DRACULA LIVES. Marvel UK. 1 26th Oct 1974-87 16th Jun 1976 (joins Planet of the Apes)
First there was Mighty World of Marvel and Spiderman Comics Weekly in 1972. Followed by The Avengers in 1973. Then this title along with Planet of the Apes was the next wave. Free gift in issue #1 colour poster attached at centrefold adds maybe £5-£10 to value.

EAGLE. Hulton/Longacre/Odhams/IPC. Vol 1 #1 14th Apr 1950-Vol 20 #17  26th Apr 1969 (987 issues, joins Lion)
An exceptional comic for its time, printed in photogravure which gave it rich colours. Tabloid size so horizontal creases across the middle are common, completely flat copies are scarce. Volume #1 more difficult to find but otherwise fairly common comics. Last issues more difficult. Only ever seen one Very Fine copy of issue #1. A signed by Frank Hampson VG copy of #1 I recall went for £219 at auction in Dec 1995, actually under estimate at the time. I bid for it but lost. Nov 2007 E Bay sales: #1 (VG+) £190, #2 (VG+) £82, #3 (VG+) £36. The second series re-launched Dan Dare and The Mekon on 27th March 1982, very common on E Bay.

The first eleven volumes of this annual also came with a dust-jacket which would add 20% to the value. Dust-jacket is rare on the first one. Well, I haven't got one and I have never seen one so please tell me otherwise but I think it is a rare occurrence!

EXPRESS WEEKLY. Beaverbrook. 74 18th Feb 1956-285 20th Apr 1960 (becomes TV Express)
This title first appeared in 1954 as a newspaper for children and converted to a comic with issue #39 called Junior Express Weekly dated 18th Jun 1955. It ran for 35 issue before becoming Espress Weekly. #74, as a 'first issue', also had a free gift of  the Super Book of Racing Cars. Never seen one but I guess it could add £25-£40 to the value.

Partnered by Terrific which came out two months later, these titles brough the Marvel Silver Age universe to the UK, running in parallel with Pow which began in January with its Spiderman reprints. The free gift in issue #1 of a Fantastic plastic pennant is scarce and alone adds £30-£40 to the value. Note that the plastic pennant had 4 superhero inserts which don't often survive. The complete package is worth about £75-£90.
