HULK COMIC, THE INCREDIBLE. Marvel UK. 1 7th Mar 1979-63 15th May 1980 (joins Spiderman Weekly)

Nice little set. A #1-50 with free gifts sold on E Bay (Nov 2007) for £64. Issue #1 originally came pre-bagged with a Hulk Sticker Album and packet of stickers. This unopened package would have a value of may £5-£10. If opened, the value decreases dramatically.

HURRICANE. Fleetway. 29th Feb 1964-8th May 1965 (63 un-numbered issues)
Sub-titled Companion Paper to Valiant though it ended up joining Tiger. Very collectibel title with massive interest in the first 10 or 15 issues, some of which have seen prices of £50 each on E Bay in recent times. Certainly a tough set to put together. The first issue free gift of a TSR 2 Flying Model is incredibly hard to find and would add at least £125 to the value if not more. The predominantly white cover on issue #1 makes very high grade copies a rarity hence the value for true Near Mint, of which I have only ever seen one copy. The annuals ran from 1965 to 1984 and are pretty plentiful on E Bay, the 1965 at £30-£40 or so in true Near Mint. A VG+ copy sold on E Bay (Nov 2007) for £28. Free gift in issue #2 was the Hurricane Howler, and #3 had a Super Kreem Toffee Bar. Yum! #4 and #5 had 4 page Book of Records supplements. Make sure they're not missing!

For those of a certain age, this was your first comic. Very collectible, along with Playhour. The annuals started in 1955 (called The Jack and Jill Book) and lasted right up until 1985, all cover-dated.

JACKIE. D.C. Thomson. 1 11th Jan 1964-? (I have #1135 Oct 5th 1985)

The most famous early teen girl comic that put the photo-story on the map. Highly collectible and becoming more available thanks to E Bay and other auction sites. Free gift with #1 True Heart Ring is rare and would add £60-£75 to the value. 1st Jackie & Diana 11th Dec 1976. The first Jackie Summer Special was  in 1976 (about a tenner) and there was a Spring Special 1979. The annuals ran from 1966 up to 1993.

Sought after little run of a title that didn't quite live up to expectation. I have seen one complete run offered on E Bay that went for over £300. The free gift in issue #1 is Bobby Moore's Book of the FA Cup and would add £25-£35 to the value. It is fairly common. The annuals ran from 1969 to 1973 with the first one a scarce, sought after item at £25-£35.

JAMES BOND ANNUAL. World Distributors. 1966, 1967, 1969

Three highly collectible annuals with photo features from the classic Sean Connery films Dr. No, From Rusia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball and You Only Live Twice. Very plentiful on E Bay it's true but tough to find in super high grade. Most copies are VG and some FN. Very Fine or better really are tough. There was also a James Bond 007 Moonraker Special in 1980, James Bond: For Your Eyes Only in 1982 and James Bond Octopussy 007 in 1984.

Strangely under-achieving title with some quite good strips like Van Hoffman's Invasion but never really got going. Free gift issue #1 Monster Wasp adds £10 or so to value. Issues turn up on E Bay, long runs/sets don't. Most recent #1 sale on E Bay (Nov 2007) VG/FN copy with gift unused at £22.

JIMMY OLSEN DOUBLE DOUBLE COMICS. Thorpe & Porter. 1 1967
These were bound-together remaindered copies of selected DC and Marvel comics with covers taken from original DC comics or sometimes new covers adapted from interior scenes. Very hard to find in Near Mint but often show up on E Bay in low and mid grade. Good reading value. #1 of this title seems to be scarce for some reason. To my knowledge there are 24 different Double Double Comics across a number of titles - Action, Adventure, Batman, Detective, Jimmy Olsen, Justice League, Lois Lane, Strange Adventures and World's Finest. But I'm still looking!
