KNOCKOUT. Amalgamated Press/Fleetway. 1  4th Mar 1939-16th Feb 1963 (1,231 issues, numbered to 1054; joins Valiant)

A long-running title that has a few devotees but as those collectors grow older, younger ones are less interested so prices remain static. A late key issue to watch out for is 21st July 1962 when the title was re-vamped with a new, more modern look and logo and featured the 1st appearance of Kelly's Eye by Solano Lopez. I recall a copy sold on E Bay for £75 about three years ago. In fact those last 8 months or so of issues have become highly collectible. The last issue dated 16th Feb 1963 sold on E Bay (Nov 2007) in VG for £22.99. This last issue also has a full colour centrespread preview of the first Valiant & Knockout coming the next week.

KNOCKOUT (2nd Series). IPC. 12th Jan 1971-23rd Jun 1973 (105 un-numbered issues, joins Whizzer & Chips)
Early issues quite sought after as they are genuinely hard to find and put a run together. The annuals from 1973 to 1985 are pretty common though the first one in Near Mint is tricky. Took me ages to find one. £10 seems about right but the rest very cheap.

KNOCKOUT FUN BOOK. Amalgamated Press. 1941-1962.
A long-lived annual title that accompanied the first series of knockout. Not one I collected however. A 1941 annual in VG+ sold in June 2004 for £151 from Comic Book Postal Auctions. The last two annuals of interest as they are scarce, laminated and contains a variety of interesting comic strips. If you see them on E Bay they are well worth picking up. Very hard to find in anything approaching high grade.

KRAZY. IPC. 1 16th Oct 1976-15th Apr 1978 (79 mostly un-numbered issues; joins Whizzer and Chips)
Pretty common on E Bay. Free gift issue #1 was plastic Vampire Fangs and adds maybe £3-£5 to the value. Holiday Specials ran from 1977 to 1983 and are plentiful. The annuals ran from 1978 to 1985, well beyond the demise of the comic. Plentiful, all dated on cover, all turn up in high grade very frequently.

An increasingly popular title for the Gerry Anderson content and general scarcity of issues. Some fun free gifts like an X-Ray Hairband in issue #2 (which came in red and blue as far as I know) and a monogrammed Lady P Hankie in #34. Free gift is issue #1 Signet Ring in box very scarce and adds £75-£100 to the value. #2 in VG+ with X-Ray Hairband sold on E Bay (Oct 2007) for £120.

LION. Amalgamated/Fleetway/IPC. 1  23rd Feb 1952-18th May 1974 (1,136 issues, numbered to 378; joins Valiant)
One of the great long-running British comics, stuffed full of good strips and characters. Always appearing on E Bay as single comics but not often in big runs or complete years. Early issues (ie right through the 1950s) suffer from rusty staples a lot of the time so ones withour rust are desirable and unusual. Free gift on issue #1 is a Sport Stars in Action album and adds £30-£50 to the value. In early 2007 Comic Book Postal Auctions sold isue #1 with gift for £132, #2 with gift for £77 and #3 in FN- for £44.

Free Gifts
Lion free gifts do turn up on E Bay from time to time. The early albums strangely enough are fairly common as is the Ace Aircraft and My Favourite Soccer Stars Albums. The League Ladders occasionally show up though not often with the Team Tabs still attached to the backing card from which they're pressed out. The rest are tougher and I don't think I've ever seen the Quiz Wheel.
