Simple, yet tasty!

Once you’ve made your own pizza you’ll realise how good it tastes!.
This recipe has a simple, classic topping of tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil, but you can add whatever extras you like. For best results don’t pile too much on and use ingredients that are either cooked or will cook quickly.
Pizza dough is pretty easy to make. It's a bread dough made with a little olive oil and strong bread flour. If you use fast action yeast it will rise quickly too. To achieve a thin, crispy base make sure it’s rolled out thinly before you add the topping.
For a quick tomato sauce base you can use ready-made passata, a jar of pizza topping sauce or pasta sauce. Alternatively you can make your own by cooking together garlic, onion, canned tomatoes and a pinch of oregano until thick. Remember that too much sauce will result in a soggy pizza, so spread thinly!

For the base
• 250g strong white bread flour
• 1/2tsp fast action dried yeast
• 1/2tsp salt
• 1/2tsp sugar
• 1tbsp olive oil
• 150ml tepid water
Or cheat and use a bought pizza dough recipe!

For the topping:
• 3tbsp passata, pizza topping sauce or tomato pasta sauce
• 200g of mozzarella, sliced
• A few basil leaves

Step 1
Place the flour in a mixing bowl and add the yeast, salt and sugar. Try to keep the salt and yeast separate before mixing. Stir in the olive oil then pour on the water.
Step 2
Mix the dough until it forms a soft sticky dough, then turn out onto the work surface and knead until smooth and elastic. To knead, push and stretch the dough away from you with the heel of your hand. Roll the dough back up towards you, give it a quarter turn and repeat.
Step 3
Place the dough in a clean mixing bowl and cover with cling film and leave in a warm place until doubled in size. This may take 15—20 mins depending on the warmth of the room. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Fan 180C / Gas Mark 6.
Roll out the dough thinly to make a 30cm diameter circle and place on a baking tray or pizza stone. Spread the tomato sauce over the base leaving a small border around the edge, then top with sliced mozzarella and basil leaves.
Bake for 12-15 mins until golden brown and risen. Slice and serve hot.
