Got an unrepentant movie fanatic in your life? A walking, talking encyclopedia of obscure cinematic trivia? A person who's forever posting just-released trailers to Facebook with an excitable comments like, 'OMG, CAN'T WAIT!'?

If the above sounds familiar, why not make your movie buff's year by buying them one – or more – of these movielicious , cinemarvellous Christmas gifts? They might even love you for it, almost as much as they love the director's commentary on their special edition Blu-ray of The Godfather.

1. Original Movie Stills

Back in the day – before the internet took over and magazines and newspapers still ruled the world – film studios would promote their upcoming releases by sending out movie stills to the press, in the vain hope they'd be reprinted for the readers. As all the promotional imagery used for new movies has long since been digitised, these classi snippets – large, glossy, black-and-white photographs featuring all kinds of info on the movie – have become evocative artefacts of a bygone era.

They look really cool framed, and there are always thousands of them on offer on eBay. Like the still above, which is from a 1951 comedy called Bedtime For Bonzo, in which future President of the United States of America, Ronald Reagan, adopts a chimp. Obviously.

2. Major Toht Candle

Remember at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, when the Ark of the Covenant is opened and it literally melts the faces of all the evil Nazis gathered around? Gestapo swine Major Toht comes off worst of all, his screaming face wilting away into a bubbling, heat-scorched mass within seconds.

Well, the movie-buff in your life can now recreate – in satisfying slow-motion – one of the most memorable death scenes of all time with this wax Major Toht candle. Melt, you cackling monster!

The series comes in a variety of flavours, including Adrenaline, Dark Comedies, Zombies and, er, Kosher.

Nobody, in the entire glorious history of cinema, has ever watched a film standing up. Sitting down is basically task No1 when you're preparing to watch a movie. Fail to achieve that, and the whole endeavour is gonna go south pretty quickly. And if you want to sit comfortably for 90 minutes-plus, you're going to need a cushion – and for maximum cinematic ambience, that cushion should be a movie-themed cushion. Job done. Press play.

5. Gourmet Popcorn

Sweet? Salted? Daahling, those flavours are sooo 2015. These days, the more discerning movie buff accompanies their home-cinema viewings with a big 'ol bowl of gourmet popcorn. There are dozens of weird and wonderful options (poptions?) to try out, including Marmite-coated, strawberries-and-cream and caramel-and-chilli. Go on, ditch the Butterkist – and be daaaring, dahling.

6. C-3PO Bluetooth Speaker

No other movie series has been merched to the extent of Star Wars. There are tens of thousands of products out there, including everything from Wookie cookie jars to Millennium Falcon drones. This C3-PO Bluetooth desk speaker, however, has to be one of the coolest spin-off items yet produced. C3-PO may be a wilfully annoying character in the movies, but he'll seem altogether more likeable when he's got Purple Rain blasting out of his grille.

7. Minimalist Movie Posters

A classic movie poster will always look cool framed on your wall, but these things are even cooler. They involve designers re-imagining films using minimal visual motifs from the movies themselves. So, the Home Alone poster becomes two paint pots suspended on ropes (geddit?), The Breakfast Club is five library chairs, and Fargo is a simple red ice-scraper. Name a classic movie, and there's probably a minimalist poster to accompany it. Just don't forget the picture frame while you're at it!

8. Ticket Stub Diary

For a movie buff, a trip to the cinema is a borderline holy experience; a popcorn-scented pilgrimage to their chosen place of worship. But once they've scoffed all their Starburst and slurped their £7.50 Sprite away, there's nothing tangible left to take away afterwards – unless, of course, they could keep a record of their cinema excursions by gluing all their ticket stubs into a beautifully designed ticket-stub diary? Yes, it is kinda nerdy, but it's also awesome – and they'll love it.

9. Home Cinema Projector

And finally, this is the ultimate piece of kit for the hardcore movie buff: Their very own home cinema projector, which allows them to experience all the immersiveness of the cinema with none of the annoyances (chattering children, twitchy seat-kickers, jumbo-haired view-blockers, distracting phone-users and those absolute sociopaths who bring crisps – crisps! – into the auditorium). Twin the projector with a sofa-shaking surround-sound system, and you've got the total home-cinema experience
