If your idea of holiday packing involves throwing half your wardrobe into a suitcase and hoping for the best – stop! Focus instead on these essential items and you'll be good to go.

A Comfy Aeroplane Outfit

Layers are key to a great plane outfit as you don’t want to melt when you arrive in sunnier climes, or freeze when you hit the tarmac back in Blighty. Start with a pair of leggings or slouchy harem trousers and team with a long to mid-length oversized T-shirt or vest. A long length cardigan is a great way to look on trend (even when you’re having a sneaky plane nap) and you can use it as a blanket when the air-con kicks in. It’s always good to fly in sandals that you can easily take on and off. Bring a pair of nice fluffy socks to make you feel right at home!

Amazing Swimwear

Finding swimwear that you love needn’t be daunting! If you fancy opting for a bikini, go for a gorgeous, retro, 50s style. The high-waisted bottoms will hone and shape your figure, and a bikini top with full, moulded cups will boost your bust.

If it’s a swimsuit that you’re after, plunging, halterneck styles are really flattering on curvy girls and structured, panelled shapes with underwiring will make the most of your frame. Avoid black – a bright colour or fun floral print will stop any style from feeling frumpy.

A Gorgeous Beach Cover Up

When hunting for a beach cover up, you ideally want something that’s easy take on and off (even when you’re covered in sand) and looks pretty enough that you’d happily go for a drink in it on your way home from the beach. White, loose cotton kaftans with lots of embroidery are a great choice, as are floaty, printed numbers with ties that nip you in at the waist to highlight your frame.

Dazzling Daytime Outfits

Daytime dressing can be tricky, as you want to feel both comfortable and stylish. Avoid anything too tight fitting and stick to light, thin fabrics that are comfy and don’t take up much space in your case. Wide-leg, printed palazzo pants teamed with a plain top or vest will balance out your frame and floaty skater dresses in ditsy floral prints will keep you looking pretty and feeling cool.

Stunning Eveningwear

Show off your hard-earned holiday glow in a strappy midi or maxi dress. The longer length will elongate your frame and look effortlessly elegant. A bold, patterned frock will speak for itself, but if you’re wearing a block colour make sure you dress it up with statement jewellery or an embellished clutch. As suitcase space is always tight, it’s good to make your clothes work for more than one occasion on holiday – wear your maxi  out for dinner one night and then as a beach dress the next day.

Pretty Sandals

A great pair of flat sandals is a holiday essential! They need to be comfortable enough to walk in when you inevitably get lost on the first day, but also pretty enough to wear out in the evening. Pick a simple style: anything too fussy will make your legs look shorter – sliders and gladiator shapes are a good choice. Metallic shades will add a touch of glamour, and help take you from day to night.
